Things have slowed down somewhat this week, but it’s been a time management issue rather than a loss of mojo. It seems to happen more and more at the moment but it’s been a really busy week at work with lots of late nights doing testing. The result has been I’ve only had a couple of hours of hobby time over the whole week which I’ve spent on something a bit different, or at least different for this week. I’ve given you some near future, post-apocalyptic, some Renascence fantasy and this week I’m going to give you a taste of the grim dark future, so prizes for guessing where I’m going with this.
But before I get onto the hobby bit I want to have to share a bit of positive new. There is lots of doom and gloom about at the moment along with lots of people dealing with stressful times. For me the biggest strain over the last eight months or so is that I’ve not been able to visit my mum. It was here birthday on Thursday and I was able to visit here for the first time and it was fantastic to see her. We couldn’t have a cuddle or anything like that but just seeing and really knowing she is doing well has been a massive lift me. I know this is nothing to do with hobby but I just thought that it was worth sharing a bit of good news for a change. I know we have a long way to go before things get back to normal, or whatever is going to pass for normal but that visit was a very big step in the right direction.
Now back to a proper if limited hobby update for the week. On a slight side note I’ve not done any more on the Lego Defender but I will get back to in the not too distant future. But this week I’ve been working on a Sister of Silence, I’ve actually built and primed all five models that come in the box but I’ve only been working on one as I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with them. Or I think more accurately I knew what I wanted them to look like but I didn’t know how to achieve that look. One down, nearly and I’ve not quite got the look I was aiming for. I’m happy with the overall feel of the mini and once it’s finished would be more than happy to field it in a game. Which is one of the things I set as goal for this year in that if something wasn’t quite right don’t fixate on what is wrong, go with what is right. The bit that I’m not happy with is the contrast between the gold of armour and the gold that makes up the eagles on the shoulder pads. I was hoping for a bit more contrast so the eagles looked more ornamental and decorative. There is some distinction there but not quite as much as I would have liked. Having said that I’m happy with the rest of the armour and of the overall gold and purple colour scheme so there are more positives than negatives for me. But what do you think.
I’m going to finish up the details on this lady and then the plan is to do the rest of the squad the same way. As I said I’m more than happy with the overall feel of the mini and I don’t want to get bogged down on something that will stop me moving forward. It’s not like I’m my life depends on it and to be honest they may never see the light of day on the gaming table as I don’t have an army to fit them into. I just wanted to have a go at painting something I normally would do. What might be a nice idea is to look to see if there is some way of converting some of these ladies so that they could be used in Warcry. After all they are very nice models with no really obvious sci-fi elements to them. A few weapon swaps could be all that is needed to give them a very different feel. And they would stand a much better chance of making onto the table if they were used for Warcry than they will in a game of 40K. I’m thinking that something like Cypher Lords, Splintered Fang, or maybe some form of Stormcast. Just a thought.
Well that’s it for this week. Once again I hope you are all keeping safe and where you can be keeping an eye on others. Have a good week and hope to catch up with all again next week.
