Beneath the Mountain: Lore and Tactics of the Quilted Vanguard

Welcome to the Chronicles, the digital home for my passion for miniature painting, tabletop gaming, and the general hobby life. If you are a regular reader of the Weekly Waffle, you know I usually have my hands full cleaning mold lines off Warhammer figures, messing around with Blood Bowl coaches, or chasing after the latest indie skirmish game. I’m no competitive grandmaster or Crystal Brush guru, just a guy who loves the smell of primer and sometimes gets severe “hobby butterflies.” Today, we are taking a break from the painting desk to step into the theatre of the mind. I’ve been digging back into the Dungeons & Dragons rules over…

Weekly Waffle #340 – A mans best friend

Weekly Waffle #340 – A mans best friend 6th July 2024 For this week,s weekly waffle I am sticking with the most notorious and sought after members of the under-hive. Although this time I’m turning the stature up a little. I do love my squats but not everyone feels that way. So we are going for something a little less vertically challenged. I already have quite a large contingent of Orlocks and I’m looking to expand that even further this week with the addition of Slate Merdena & Macula, Orlock Hired Gun. This is a set that I have liked since it first came out but I just haven’t got…

  • Weekly Waffle #214

Another slow week this week which seems to be coming a bit of habit so we have short weekly waffle. I’m hoping it’s the quite before the storm and I’m suddenly going to fall into a super productive period where I get loads and loads of things finished. Alas that is still in the future and won’t save me with content for this week. No game night this week but we did have a very interesting D&D session on Sunday and I took the opportunity to change out my character. Gone is the Halfling monk and in is the Dwarven bard. Now I was hoping for a nice introduction to…

It’s been a really productive week for me this this week but unfortunately I don’t actually have a lot of things that I can share with you for the weekly waffle because they are unsubstantial. So I’ll start with the things that I don’t have pictures or anything like that to share with you. As I mentioned last week we had some discussions about how our D&D adventure was going to progress and I’m pleased to say that we got everything sorted. We had a really good session and got our party back on line. We’ve picked up a new member of our party and things are looking good. This…

I’ve had a change of pace for this week’s weekly waffle. No gaming at all for you but from my point of view that’s not all bad as one of my other passions has filled the void with the start of the Tour de France this week. Not to everyone’s taste but I’m quite happy to have the live coverage on all day whilst I’m getting in a bit of hobby time. Which is exactly what I have been doing this week. I’ve put the grot bomb-er to one side for a while as I’ve started to go a bit kit bash crazy and I’m now concentrating on getting some…

  • Weekly Waffle #169

Well Adepticon feels like a dim and distant memory now and the world has slotted everything back into place as if the trip never actually happened. So that’s the post-holiday blues out of the way and everything is back to normal. Although the mojo is still up and I’m working on getting some hobby time in every day, even if it’s only ten minutes. I read somewhere that one of the blockers for getting things done is actually starting them so by planning to do something, no matter how small, each day gets you in the mind set to get things done. No idea if it will continue but it’s…

I think I’m starting the year on a run of weekly waffles, if you can call two a roll. Following on from a really enjoyable night of D&D I decided that I couldn’t rely on someone else to bring along a players handbook and that I needed to get my own copy. Which is where my series of dilemmas started. A quick search of the internet made it clear that there were any number of ways and formats that I could obtain an electronic copy of the handbook, but none of these were official. Looking to see if there was an official way to get hold of copy lead to…
