The Hobbyist’s Verdict
Welcome to the Reviews section. As any hobbyist knows, the tabletop world is vast, filled with an endless stream of new miniatures, rulebooks, painting gadgets, and hobby services. While I’m not a professional in this field, I’ve spent plenty of time at the painting desk and on the gaming mat to know what works for me and what doesn’t. And I’m hoping that experience will translate into what will work for you.
On this page, you’ll find my honest, down to earth takes on things such as:
- Miniatures & Kits: Testing the build quality and detail of everything from major Games Workshop releases to boutique indie sculpts.
- Gaming Systems: Deep dives into rulebooks and team mechanics for games like Blood Bowl, Guild Ball, and Necromunda.
- Hobby Tools: Reviews of the paints, brushes, and specialized equipment (like wet palettes or lightboxes) that actually make it onto my workbench.
- Events & Services: Retrospectives on gaming conventions and my experiences with different vendors in the community.
Everything here is reviewed through the lens of a “big kid who likes his toy soldiers.” I’m looking for the fun factor, the hobby value, and whether a product actually survives the reality of a busy gaming schedule. Whether it’s a game changing new paint or a kit that was a “tabletop disaster” to assemble, you’ll get the full story here.
One crucial thing that I want to call out is that another here is sponsored and I have no affiliation with anything I’m reviewing. If it finds it’s way onto here then it means I have spent my own money to purchase it and you will see my honest review.
Because I don’t do this for a living you will probably find that over time the reviews will either be very positive or very negative. Simply because I don’t have endless time to write them. So something has to have stood out to me if I’ve going to give take the time and effort to write a review.
