It’s been a bit of mixed up week this week and I’ve put the white dwarf to one side and instead gone down a dystopian route. To be precise I’ve gone down a French dystopian route with my French fleet arriving. Now I’ve found that it’s not easy to get any painting done in a hotel room cleaning and building up models is another thing altogether. That meant that I manged to get everything prepped and ready for painting whilst I was away. Then with two nights at home I’ve had a bit of time to get the airbrush out to make a really good start on the fleet.
Now all this positivity is good but when it comes to painting any Dystopian war fleet you can’t escape the elephant in the room. Tiny flyers. As useful as they can be I absolutely hate painting them. I’m not sure if the repetition or the amount of effort it takes painting them when you really don’t notice them on the table. That’s why I put painting them off to the end of a project in the hope that they will miraculously paint themselves. But not this time. I decide that I’ve paint them first and get them out of the way. It took a while but they are just about done so I can look forward to the rest of the project.
I’ve also made quite a lot of progress on the rest of the fleet with all of the base colours down and the decking in place. My plan is to go over this base metal colour with the main blue colour that I’m going to be using for the fleet. This is the technique I used on the Russian fleet and I like how that turned out so that’s my plan for these. I think using thin paints gives a nice weathered feel to things which is something I don’t think I could do any other way. I’m hoping that when I throw in a bit of colour it will give a nice contrast and provide a bit of pop to things.
With cycling being one of my other passions and there being live coverage of the Tour de France this weekend my plan is to have that on whilst I’m sat there working on this fleet. Which is a nice bit of unplanned symmetry considering the fleet I’m currently working on. One think I’m determined to get done this weekend is to cut out the plasticard I need to make all the bases for the fleet. Mainly because it’s a boring job and I know if I don’t get it done I’ll find some excuse not to do it once the fleet is painted. I’m not going to set any other goal for this week but I’ve no other plans so I’ll get as much done as I possibly can and with a bit of look I’ll have some of them finished for next week.
Then with a fare wind I should have the rest done in a couple of week which could open up a bit of dilemma. Do I expand the fleet or do I switch sides again and pick up some Egyptians? It make more sense to get a few more units for the French and I do really like the models but the look of those Egyptian hovercraft is also really appealing. But I need to get these finished first so I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
That’s it for this week so I hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll catch you all again next week.
