Weekly Waffle #308
January 22nd 2023
The update is a day late due to some technical issues. Basically I’ve learned that I can’t add a lot of pictures in a single update. So in the future I’ll have to do regular updates of the draft until everything is ready go and I publish. Anyway onto this weeks update. Game night was back on this week and it feels really weird to that it was the first of the year. Although thanks to Northern Rails punctuality I wasn’t able to make it in person. However everyone survived the break more or less in one piece but the same can’t be said for the state of some the cars in our Gas Lands race. At the start of the night Chris was out front with a straight run for the finish line. All he had to was to keep going and not spin out. Well it turned out that he managed to make it across the line out front but it was a much closer call than anyone expected. But a win is a win and he took the top step of the podium.
On the hobby front all my effort this week has gone into trying to get the Alliance fleet finished with at least one option of turrets. As it turns out I managed to get two sets of turrets, the heat lance and the heavy turret finished for all of the ships that have the option to use it. I’ve not managed to get the generator options finished but I’m happy with how much I have managed to get done this week. The key elements for this week have been to do the water effects on the bases, finish off the details such as the windows and of course to get the turrets finished off. With the exception of the water effects not the bases everything was reasonably straight froward, but it has been a very repetitive which has made a lot of the week quite boring from a hobby point of view. But I think that is just one of those things that you have to find a way to get through on a project. Which is where I’ve often fallen down in the past because I get bored and start a new project. But not this time.
So the plugging on has resulted in me now having a table top ready Alliance fleet of thirteen ships. It’s been a bit of journey and for the most part I’ve enjoyed all of it and I’m really happy with the end result.
The Alliance fleet is the first new project I started this year and I’ve actually managed to finish it in January. Now I know that in the past I may have done this much work in a week but I just don’t have that much hobby time at the moment so getting something done within the month has really put a smile on my face. It also helps to top up the mojo ready for the next project or possibly projects. I’m going to carry on with the Dystopian Wars theme and make a start on the Hunt for Prometheus box set which has two fleets in it. The Enlightened and the Commonwealth which will be two new colour schemes to come up with. I have ideas for both of them but I’m not yet sure if they will, only time will tell on that one.
That’s just about it for this week but I do have a bit of teaser for next week.
I’m going to wrap things up there for this week. I hope you all have a really good weekend and that next week isn’t to hard on you. I’m out for meal and a few beers tonight so not sure what sort of state I’ll be in tomorrow but I will get some work done in time for next weeks update.
