No game night this week so in theory I’ve had some more time to get some painting in. In reality that’s not turned out quite how I thought it would. Whilst I’ve been working on finishing off my Deathwatch I’ve also started watching Falling Skys on Netflix so I haven’t got as much painting done as I planned. But I have finished watching season one and cracking on with season two at the moment.
On the hobby front I’ve decided to go with a technical type of base for the Deathwatch and green stuffed up some bases for them. It was a struggle to try and think of a way to go with these because I’m seriously thinking about painting up some more so I wanted something that wouldn’t get boring and that I could scale up to a flying base if I decide to give them a vehicle. So this is what I ended up with.
I’ve also spent a bit of time painting up the alternate heads that came in the box. I wanted to try and move away from my very formulaic approach to painting skin and give these a bit of variety and I’m really happy with how they have turned out. Not the best out their but I think they are real step up for me and I’ve really enjoyed the process of painting them. I’m not just as happy with one I’ve done as a Salamander but I think part of that is because it does look so unnatural. But that is how they are described in the fluff so that’s what I’ve gone with. Having done these I think I’ll try and do some step by step guides to show how I did the different versions and try and look as doing a few more for good measure.
The end result of this week’s labour has been the completion of my Deathwatch Kill Team. I find that Space Marines, whilst having some fantastic fluff can often look a bit bland but I don’t think that’s the case with these guys. They somehow seem to match the fluff and have been great to paint, so much so that I think I may have to treat myself to the Kill Team Cassius box set for my next project.
And that rounds out this week’s update. Not sure what I will be working on next week but I am planning to get to the end of Season 2 of Falling Sky’s regardless of whatever hobby I get done. Have a good week and hope to catch you all again next week.
