Well then it’s nearly time for the big fat man to come climbing down the chimney and if you are really lucky it may actually be Santa with a sack full of presents. I’m just hoping that with our change of IT supplier at work things will calm down a bit in the New Year and I’ll actually get some gaming in. I’m not exactly sure what form that gaming will take but both Necromunda and Kill Team seem like good contenders. I’m also quite keen to try and get Al on board for a dabble at the new Wild West Exodus. Even if it’s not actually that new now.
But enough of looking forward, after all I don’t want to use up all my idea’s before the New Year editions where I plane to do a bit of look ahead. No for this issue it’s looking back at what I’ve been up to this week and that starts with another D&D session. In theory this should have been a bit of explore and restock type of session but as things turned out it may have had some major implications for my character. Essentially all we did restock our travel supplies and meet up with a couple of new characters. Where things went wrong was when I didn’t intervene, and even condoned allowing Orrakk to rob the Alchemist shop. The reason behind it was the he was going to wear a disguise to look like Harrion, who had robbed us earlier in our trip and show people he wasn’t the good guy he likes to pose as. Now this really went against what my character would normally do but I got carried along with things. So Orrakk went off to do his robbing as we left town, but before we were that fare out of town there was some commotion that resulted in the town being sealed with Orrakk still inside. There wasn’t much we could do so carried on as planned then after about half an hour Orrakk caught up with us and said he’d been attacked and had to escape, but people had only seen him in his disguise.
Now in game that’s all I know at the moment and I’m not too happy about that. It’s niggling that I’ve let myself down by allowing him to go and rob the alchemist. But out of character it’s far worse. What Orrakk hasn’t told us is that after being caught and attacked by the alchemist in his shop he killed him and cut his head off. There is a reason for him flipping like that from time to time but it’s complicated so I’ll save it for later. So I’m now complicit in the murder of an innocent man even if I don’t yet know it and I can’t see that going down well in the future.
On the hobby front I’ve finally got to the end of the bomber project getting the final finishing touches added this week. I’d been struggling to find a pilot and came across a Kromlech model that was in a bits box and decided to go with that. He clearly isn’t actually flying the thing but it looks cool and that’s good enough for me. The only thing I’m not over the moon with is that it is a little bit shinier than I would like. I’ve used my normal Vallejo Satin vanish that I really like but I’m not sure if it’s gone off a bit or what but it’s certainly shinier than I expected. But I don’t have any mat varnish and I’m really keen to call it a day with this a move on to something new so it’s staying as it is for now. Although may give it a once over with some mat varnish at some point.
I have to say that I’m really happy with how this has turned out and it’s got me thinking of more ideas for some interesting Orkie conversions. The only thing with this I still need to work out is how to transport it and I think the only way I can do that is to treat myself to a new KR case. I think a deep pluck and pick one should to the job, although they will custom cut foam for you if you send them a template so I may have a think about that. There’s just something about a custom case that really appeal to me after the amount of time I’ve put into this.
Anyway that’s it for this week but I will be back next week and I’ve already got the next project lined up. Or I have if Santa thinks I’ve been a good boy this year. If not I’ll have to come up something else for next week. Until then I hope you all have a really good Christmas doing whatever it is you do. For me it’s a nice chilled out day with the family that I’m really looking forward to. So enjoy yourselves and I hope to see you all again next week.
