Weekly Waffle #199

No D&D update for you this week, there was a game but I couldn’t make it so I don’t know what happened, or even if I’m still alive yet. I’m sure I am as I don’t think Anna would kill me off it I wasn’t actually there. Set me up an unavoidable and excruciating encounter, yes, but not actually kill me off.

No trains to worry about this week so I managed to make it for game night for the start of the Kill Team games. I spent some time trying to write up a list for my Gene stealer cult and realised that there aren’t actually enough points in the Neophyte Hybrid box bot field a hundred point list. I can bulk it out with a few count as models but could do with picking up some more minis to really get a proper list. May have to have a look what’s available on e-bay. The only game that actually took place was between Al with some Guard and Mark with his Thousand Sons. Now Mark tabled me the other week with his nasty chaos sorcery so I was interested to see how guard would get on. It was to and fro but ended up in a very definitive draw. The last round saving Marks bacon and rounding off a very enjoyable game.

On the hobby front it’s been more and more work on the Bomma. I’ve put a lot of hours into this this week but when I step back and look at it it’s hard to see where all of that effort has gone. Most of the week has been working on the fiddlier and as such time consuming bits which just seem to grow and grow. An example of this has been the bombs and rockets for the wings. Each one has needed a small piece of plastic card cutting out and then distressing. Drilling out so that I can add a magnet and then finally adding the magnet. Making sure they all go in the same way so that they actually stick things to the wing and not repel them. There’s nothing hard about this but it’s boring and repetitive, which means I get distracted and it ends up taking a long time. I wanted to magnetise them mainly to make it easier when I come to start painting but they can also be a good way of keeping track of what has been used during games.

I’ve also been working on ways of trying to ensure the wings can be removed, for transport, but not fall off during games. The answer again seems to be magnets and I’ve added a few that seem to work quite well. Although I think to be sure I will need to add some to the trailing edge side of the wing for good measure. My only problem at the moment is that I’ve run out of this size of magnet so I’ve had to order some more. I can still move onto painting though as they are going to be well out of the way on the finished model and I don’t want to slow myself down any more than I have so far.

The nose has been fitted but not yet fully glued in place. This is because I’m going to paint it with the nose cowl removed to make it easier. I may even try and paint on some spirals, then fit the cowl once all of that is done. Again just thinking of ways to make life easier when I start painting. Also having had a look at Al’s fighta on game night I realised where the two extra big shoota I had went so they have not been added to the nose so it has a little bit more dakka.

On the detail front I’ve added in some exhausts as whilst this may be jet it still needs lots of smoke belching exhausts. It just wouldn’t be Orky without them. I really do think I’m getting into the end game of the build now and I will certainly have paint on some if not all of this for next week. As far as I can tell now I just need to add lots of rivets and bolts to give it a bit more of ramshackle feel. No small feat but certainly on the doable side. There may also be a few blank patches that need a little glyph plate or the like

That’s it for this week. I’m planning on a quite weekend so that I can try and crack on with getting the bomma into paint and then having a good clean up of desk. I’m not the neatest of Meks and end up with scrap all over the desk, just in case I need it for something else. But what really happens is that I just can see the bits I really need to find. When it comes to painting however everything has be really neat and tidy which makes me something of a Jekyll and Hyde with the monster definitely being my build head. So until next week I hope you all have a happy and productive week and I’ll catch you all again next week.
