I was hoping to have a bit of bumper update for you this week but the truth is I’ve been really lazy all week and not done a lot of painting. Done a lot of lounging around and reading but not a lot of painting. I’ve also done quite a bit of drawing working out ways to produce city maps for D&D that have multiple options in the way they are built such as rivers and roads, castles and city walls. But first of all I’ll cover what I have done on the painting front.
I’ve been working on another stand-alone fantasy model, this time a Dwarf. It’s another one of the models I picked up whilst I was at Adapticon earlier this year but just haven’t got round to painting, until now. It’s not a fancy paint job and still has a way to go but I have enjoyed it so far and there’s not a massive amount to finish off so it shouldn’t take too long to get it finished.
Now even though it’s been a lazy week I have also go the Escher girls back on the table with the view to getting them finished before I start any new projects, but we will see how the resolve goes on that one. My issue with these has been I had a very clear picture of how I wanted them to turn out but made some silly mistakes early on that have left me chasing my tail ever since. So I have now resolved myself that they aren’t going to look like I originally intended but they can still make nice gaming minis that will be fun to play. With that new goal in mind I’ve blocked gone back and blocked out the bright colours and the next step will be to highlight and shade them. With that done think it will be just a case of keep thing tidy and I should end up with some nice table top minis.
There’s nothing new for you on the D&D adventure front as we haven’t had another session since last week. But that will change tonight when we resume things it the frozen cave full of gold. I have to say that we have become an absolutely paranoid group at the moment convinced that Anna is trying to kill us all off. But then again it’s only paranoid if someone isn’t out to get you.
Also on the D&D front I’ve been working on some generic city maps for Anna which I should be able to share with you next week. I’ve done quite a few in different styles but have now settled on a formula that I think offers a lot of flexibility and will allow the same map to be used more than once. The way I have done this has been to build them all based on layers so that it is possible to select the ones you want to change the look of the map. So every town / city is broken down into ‘Districts’ which are normally the areas between major roads. Each then has the option to have a ‘Castle’ which is a spate layer and then a ‘Wall’. Finally I have added a ‘River’ layer that runs through the place. With these options it means you can get eight different configurations form one map. Then if I really want to push things I can add new ‘Districts’ outside of the city walls and even go as far as to add another wall layer so you end up with inner and outer walls. They are very time consuming to do as they are all hand drawn on a tablet but they are very relaxing, most of the time, to do. I just hope Anna is happy with them.
That’s it for this week. I hope you all have a really good week and hope to see you all again next week. Hopefully with an update on how assume our D&D group were in the frozen cave of golden wonder. Until then have a good one.
