Game night this week was more of a prep night with just me and Al and the game was to try and figure out how to fit Al Sigmar models into a case ready for the trip to America which is frighteningly close now. In fact it’s just over a week. So as I said no gaming but we did get all his models sorted but I now need to sort mine out now, although I’ve not booked any games whilst I’m there so I’m only looking to take things for pickup games so I think it will just be a case of seeing what mood I’m in next week and packing that.
We’ve had a double helping of D&D this week with a good session last Friday where we got to explore a light house and I ended up using all the healing potions I had bought the week before to keep Al in the game. Turns out we are really crap at forgetting to check for traps. And when you have a half ork in your party that thinks anything and everything is treasure it can get really messy. A really nice touch in this session was that based on some background I gave to Anna our DM she has built in an individual quest for me to run alongside the main game so I now need to convince the others it worth them tagging along whilst I complete it. The second was last night but I’ll come back to that later.
As I’ve already mentioned with our trip to Adepticon starting next week I’m not sure what I will be able to do in the way of updates from the event or over the weekend of the 24th March. So what I’m planning on doing to give you a bit of something to read is to do a post with the story of our D&D adventure to date under the guise of ‘A Good Story Poorly Told’. By that I’m that is really a bunch of notes that have stitched to into a bit of narrative but I would like to is to come back to it at some point in the future and try and flesh it into a proper story.
On the hobby front I think I have now run out of time to finish off two models for Crystal brush but I have been making progress with Jynz. In fact I’ve made quite a lot of progress. It’s been one of those weeks where you get one part to come out looking good and it inspires you to crack on with the rest. In this case I managed to get a lot of work done on the head early on with some blends from green to pink turning out nicely. That made me feel like I was making progress so I was able to press on with the rest of the model and I’m happy that as long as I can keep this progress up I will get it finished for next week. Well I don’t really have a choice now as it has to be done before we set off. I’ve mounted Jynz to the base along with the barrel of bombs and I like how it looks although I still have the head to attach. Now that I’m happy with the head I need to work on the rest of the skin tones as they are very blotchy at the moment so I need to smooth things out and get some more definition in there. Then I’ll be in a position to add the head and job should be a good one.
As you can see from the pictures all of the colours I’m going to use are now on there so it’s a case of working on highlights and shadows. That still leaves a fair bit of work to do but at least I’m not going to be sitting there thinking about which colour I need to use next. I just need to focus on trying to make things as smooth as I can so that I don’t embarrass myself to much when I hand the model in.
That’s it for this week’s update and now it’s back to the grind stone make sure I can get a much work done as possible on Jynz so that I can have relaxing weekend next weekend. Nothing worse that frantically painting into the earl hours to get something finished before you set off on a trip. I’d be really happy if by the end of Sunday I only had the finishing touches and some weathering to do which I think is realistic. Just need to say out of the pub tonight. Hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll see you all again next week.
