Weekly Waffle # 387 – Retrospective Rides

26th July 2025

For this week’s Weekly Waffle I have spent some time tidying up some previous builds. Not the most interesting of things to do but it’s something that needed doing. It’s also a reminder that in most instances a miniature is never actually finished. You can always come back to it at some point in the future if you want. Granted that most of us never will, even when we may have had that intention at the time of painting.

In this case I always knew I needed to revisit these because I hadn’t actually finished them. But it is something that we can always do with our minis if we want to. There can’t be that many people out there that can look back all of the minis they have and say they look perfect. So as our skills grow there is always that option to look back and make tweaks to our existing collections.

Granted we may have too much in the pile of shame to allow us time to revisit something that is already painted. But it’s an option. As I have already said with these minis this week they were left at the same point with just the final step needed for all of them. And that is what I have been working on this week.

It fell a quite a good time for me because it’s been a week of carnage at work. Lots of travel and lots of things not going as planned. Which has left my head minced. So having something reasonably simple to work on this week has been a very welcome distraction. Especially because the reward of having everything finished is way greater than the effort I’ve had to put in. Or at least the effort I’ve had to put in this week.

So what have I been up to this week. I have been basing my Puppets War vehicle collection. Which is something of a double edged sword. That is because I’ve used a different style of base to the rest of my Orks so I now have to decide if I go back and retro fit the rest of my collection onto bases of the same style.

It’s not something I’m going to do immediately but the new basing style is much simpler, although I still think it looks good. So it’s something I could be working on when I have some down time. Just building and then painting bases so I have them. Either for new projects or to start swapping out my existing units.

That might be a good idea because I do find building and painting bases to be very therapeutic. I think it’s just the simple repetition and having something that looks good at the end of the process.

But I’m waffling again so let’s get back on topic. This week I present to you my Puppets War vehicle collection which consists of the ‘Orc Ninja Battle Van’, the ‘Orc Team Battle Van’, ‘Orco-One’ and last but my no means least we have the ‘Orc Time Jumper Racecar’.

All of which you have seen before but now they are all based in the same style. And they are all here together in one place for your perusal.

You can see more Ork miniatures at my gallery here.

I’m really happy with how they look when they are all together and I may now have to go back and put my trucks onto bases to keep them in line with these guys. Even though I know in game terms they don’t need to be on bases.

Now speaking of trucks Puppets War also do three different truck versions. Version one has a flat front and would fit in well with my existing trucks and would round out my idea of having three trucks for truck boy squads. The other two version are more American in style bout could be good for user with squads of Burna boys ore Ard Boys. It would help to make it clear which unit belongs to which truck. Although I probably have enough projects on the to at the moment to be worried about more trucks.

But there are couple of other vehicles in the Puppets War stable that would like to get my Hands on. The first is the ‘Orcc Jetmobile’ which is basically an Orc version of the Bat Mobile. I didn’t get this one at the time it came out because I just didn’t have the confidence that I could paint it. Now I tink I could do it justice, but more importantly I’m not worried about what happens if it doesn’t work out. I can always start again.

The other vehicle I want to get my hands is the ‘OPC – Orc Personnel Carrier’. Which is Puppets War’s interpretation of the M577 APC as used by the Colonial Marines. And made famous in the film Aliens. The only problem here is that it is only available as a Digital file so I need to find a way of getting someone to print it for me. Because I don’t have 3d printer and I can’t see one coming my way in near future. But I would like to get one of these. Although I have to say it would probably get a full red paint job, as opposed to the green of the original.

There is one final vehicle that has just landed, no pun intended, on the store. Which is currently only a digital file but I am holding out for printed version. That is the O-14 Jet Fighter. So basically a Top Gun F-14 reimagined my a big mech. It looks like a fantastic mini and I do want to get my hands on one. So watch this space.

That’s it for this week. I know it’s a bit shorter than normal but I’d been a very strange week for me and I’m just glad that I’ve managed to get something out this week. I do have plans for next week’s project so fingers crossed I will have something completely new for next Saturday morning. But until then I hope you all keep safe, may hobby gods shine down on all of your endeavours and have fabulous week.
