Weekly Waffle #377 – Femme Fatale

Weekly Waffle #377 – Femme Fatal

10th May 2025

For this week’s weekly waffle I’ve stayed within the Infinity universe but I have upped the points count somewhat. I have switched from the rank and file to one of the more esoteric characters within the Yu Jing Empire. On this week’S weekly waffle I bring you the Dragon Lady.

The Dragon Lady is an Imperial Service Judge. Imperial systems device judges are senior imperial functionaries, both reared and respected for their social positions and influence. Similar to that of a mid to high ranking Yu Jing Party Member. Be careful of this femme fatale, for she will devour you.

Now on the hobby front I wanted to try and dos something just a little bit different to mark her out from the other units I have painted so far. But at the same time I wanted her to be immediately recognisable as being part of the same force. So I decided to go with a combination of jade and purple/magenta.

The thinking behind this was that the jade is the base colour I am using for all of Yu Jing so it had to be there in some form. And I just thought the purple / magenta was a nice contrast and looked regal at the same time. I also think it is a nice feminine colour. Which helps to hide just how lethal this character can be.

Keeping the colour palette to a minimum also helps to tie the mini in with the others in the force. Basically keeping the green as the predominant colour.

Something else that I wanted to do with her was to try and emphasis the Dragon connection. I looked all over the place for some small Dragon transfers, because I know I don’t have the skills to free hand them. The only once I could find were for nail art so I decided to give them a go.

Now have to say that they didn’t work out quite as well as I would have hoped but I do think they look ok. The main issue is that the material used is a lot thicker than we are used to in the scale model world. The result is that it becomes impossible to hide the fact that they are transfers. Even after using lots of micro sol and micro set. Which normally works wonders.

It’s worth digressing a little here and saying that even though I had issue with these I would use these nail art transfers again. Basically because there is so much variety out there and with a little bit of imagination you could find something to fit most needs. But what I would do differently is to cut out the transfer much closer to the image on it. By that I mean have the absolute smallest border that you can possibly get away with. Some time spent here will give you a much better end result.

Then once I have the transfer trimmed up as small and as neat as I can get it I would use a liberal amount of micro set to apply it. Once it’s in place I would use repeated applications of micro sol to help blend in the edges and give you as smooth a finish as possible. Followed by a touch up if needed and then a mat varnish.

But what do you think.

In the rich tapestry of the universe of Infinity, where every unit tells a story and contributes to the strategic landscape of warfare, the Dragon Lady, or to use the Hexahedron title a Dragon Lord, stands out as a powerful embodiment of Yu Jing’s might and ambition.

The Dragon Lady is not just a battlefield commander; she is a symbol of the Yu Jing Empire’s aspirations and power. As a judge within the Imperial Service, the Dragon Lady is revered for her combat skills and unwavering dedication to the Empire. Her narrative arc is steeped in the ideals of honour, loyalty, and the relentless pursuit of excellence—a reflection of the culture that values strength and strategy above all.

In the context of Yu Jing society, the Dragon Lady serves as a protector of the state, inspiring both fear and loyalty among the ranks. Her presence on the battlefield is a rallying point for troops, embodying the spirit of the Empire’s military prowess. The tales of her exploits serve as propaganda, reinforcing the belief in Yu Jing’s supremacy and the righteousness of its cause.

Integrating the Dragon Lord into your Yu Jing army list means you need to understand her capabilities and how to best leverage them the various scenarios to your may encounter during a game.

The Dragon Lady is equipped with advanced weaponry and possesses exceptional combat skills. His high stats in both close-quarters and ranged combat make her a versatile unit capable of engaging multiple threats on the battlefield. Additionally, her leadership abilities can boost the morale and effectiveness of nearby units, turning the tide of battle in your favour.

To maximise the Dragon Ladies effectiveness, consider pairing her with units that can either shield her from enemy fire or enhance her combat capabilities. For instance, deploying her alongside a fireteam of heavy infantry can create a formidable frontline, where the Dragon Lady can lead the charge while being supported by heavily armoured allies. Alternatively, combining her with skirmishers can allow for flanking manoeuvres that catch opponents off guard.

Positioning is crucial when using the Dragon Lord. His role as a frontline combatant means he should be placed where he can engage enemies without becoming too exposed. Utilising terrain features to provide cover while advancing will not only protect him but also allow him to unleash his devastating attacks effectively. Consider deploying him in the mid-game to capitalise on weakened enemy positions, or as a late-game reinforcement to secure objectives.

Flexibility in Objectives Beyond his combat prowess, the Dragon Lady can also engage with mission objectives that demand tactical versatility. Her ability to adapt to various scenarios makes her a valuable asset for achieving both offensive and defensive goals. Use her to contest key locations on the board or to disrupt enemy plans, all while maintaining pressure on their positions.

The Dragon Lady is more than just a powerful unit; she is a representation of Yu Jing’s ideals and ambitions, bringing a rich narrative depth to the game. By understanding his strengths and effectively integrating him into your army list, you can harness her potential to dominate the battlefield. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or new to the game, the Dragon Lady offers a dynamic and immersive experience, making her an essential component of any Yu Jing player’s list. Embrace the legacy of the Dragon Lady, and lead your forces to victory in the ever-evolving world of Infinity.
