Weekly Waffle #333 – Savant
25th May 2024
This week’s weekly waffle sees me clearing one section of my pile of shame. That is the pile I got from Artel Miniatures quite a few years ago. These were all to build out an Inquisitor war band and today sees that war band completed. Or at least it sees the completion of the miniatures I already have. It doesn’t mean I won’t add to it in the future. I’ve decided it’s a nice place to put miniatures I don’t have another home for at the moment. You know the ones that just look so good you can’t pass them up but they don’t fit into any game or army you already have. For me that has always been it would be good for D&D for fantasy miniatures. And now I have a home for my sci fi miniatures.
Another thing about this miniatures is that I’ve done something a bit different with the colour scheme. I have been doing a lot of dark colours to fit in with a grim dark world. But I have been working on a colour scheme for my next unit project and I thought it might work for this guy.
In fact I think it could work that well that whilst I’ve been typing this update I’ve been thinking about how to slot him into that gang. It’s one of those miniatures that could easily be used as specialist and whilst it wouldn’t look like the GW official miniature it would fit in very well with the overall feel I have for this unit. But I’m digressing there and you will have to wait until next week to see what you think.
Getting back to this week. I have to say that the mojo has been lagging at little bit this week but I think it’s once again been a bit of a work week. By that I mean that I’d set my stall out to get his guy finished but I was really loving the mini. Coupled with a pile of minis sitting just off stage waiting for me. But I’ve been true to my promise and I’ve stayed with what I’m working on before moving on to something new.
I mentioned above about the choice of colour scheme and I’m happy with how it has turned out. And you will be seeing more of this scheme over the next few weeks on another project. But what do you think about it.
On the Necromunda front I have been pondering for a long time about how I could go about building a Spires gang. I know they had them in the old game but the minis were a bit on the naff side. Artel also do as set which is essentially a spires gang but I’m not a fan of the Yeild (spelt wrong but the flying one). I’ve found quite a few minis that with a little bit of work could work really well. Or at least I think they could.
The out of the blue last week GW released some teaser images of a full set of Spires miniatures. But I’m not sure I really like them. Don’t get me wrong when they release them I will knocking on the door to get them as soon as I can. And I think they have a bit of a Dark Eldar feel to them which fits with them not being entirely human in design. I will need to see more pictures before I make my mind up I feel they are a little bit too uniform for me. I was hoping for a little more difference between the styles. Although they could be very nice with a little bit of free range kit bashing. But what do you think.

I feel like I’m selling you a bit short this week with a shorter than normal update but I’m not planning on making a habit of it. I’ve just got behind a bit this week and didn’t leave myself long enough to do the words for the waffle until it got too late. Not wanting to delay the update, because that could be the start of a very slippery slope. So you just have a few less words to work through. For those of you who are in the UK it gives you some extra time to enjoy the bank holiday weekend.
That is for this weekend then. I hope you all have a good week and enjoy whatever you are up to. And I’ll be back next week with another weekly waffle for you.
