Weekly Waffle #315
22nd April 2023
Had a few problems getting all the pictures to upload for last weeks weekly waffle and in the end I gave up. Which means I have a couple of extra pictures for you this week. And I’m happy about that because I haven’t got a great deal done this week. I’m still enjoying painting up the Orlocks and I have two more for you below.
First up I’ve got an Ammo Jack which is just a simple kit bash from a ganger with a few ammo crates. It’s nothing special but I think it fits the role perfectly. In game terms he should have a combat shotgun but given the fact he is clearly an ammo Jack I don’t think that will be an issue. I wanted something a bit different for the head and raided the bits box to find something suitable. This one had the feel I was looking for and finished things off nicely.
Next up we have Cinder Jack who in game terms is a hired gun that can only be taken by the Orlocks. The kit bash follows the fluff in the book and is just a ganger who I have given an Esher toxic thrower to. Like the Ammo Jack I wanted a different head but couldn’t find anything that looked like the picture in the book. So I went a bit odd ball and decided that because he is a bit of a crazy character I’d for a crazy head. I think this hits the mark.
To round out the Orlocks I have stolen an idea from twitter and used some Gene Stealer Cult minis for my heavy weapons. Just using the bodies, because they are supposed to be miners and the giving them Orlocks heads, arms and weapons. The end result are Orlocks in what looks like armour with heavy weapons. It’s a way of distinguishing them from the normal gangers but in a way that they still fit in. I think it has worked really well and now that they have had a kick of paint it’s heard to tell where I had to botch things with a bit of green stuff to get the arms to fit.
Now whilst that is it for the Orlocks, at least for now because I do like the Forgeworld female characters, it’s not all for this week. Whilst looking at Forgeworld I saw the Ashwood Stranger and just couldn’t resist. When I first saw this on the Warhammer community I thought it was a kit bash and I’d been trying to work out what bits had been used. So when I saw that it was available I just had to get it. It was a real joy to paint and after the obligatory wash to get rid of any release agent left on the parts everything went nice and smoothly. I decided to go with the colours on the box or as near as I had and I like how it’s turned out. I’ve used the same base as my Orlocks because that’s what I’m going to use for everything Necromunda. Over all it fits in quite nicely I think.
That’s it for this week but I do have more projects on the work bench that I will able to share with you next week. I’m sticking with Necromunda for now because I’m enjoying it and as long as I’m enjoying it I want to paint more. When the enthusiasm starts to wane I do have other things lined up so hopefully I can keep the mojo flowing.
What I am going to do though is change up the time I publish the Waffle. I aim for 10:00 on a Saturday morning but over the last few months I’ve really struggled with this and if I missed the time I tended to hold on to thing’s until the following week. So I’m still going to keep that timing in mind but the goal for now is to get something out to you over the weekend. If it’s Saturday morning all the better but the aim is to get back to giving you a waffle each week.
Until next week, keep safe, enjoy yourselves and I hope to catch you all again soon.
