A little summary of time in Chicago and saying goodbye Windy City starts with just how warm it was when we got here. We’ve been a couple of times now and a big coat and woolly hat have always been essential companions, but not this time. That first night it was T-shirt weather until later in the night. The Monday wasn’t quite as good with some rain in the air but it still wasn’t cold.
Tuesday was a completely different story though, wet and windy from the get go. We had a wanderer down Michigan ave looking for a diner and ended up in a place called Ed Dinner. We knew nothing about the place but loved it. Food was only ok but the vid of the place was fantastic. It’s all set up for the staff to as sarcastic as possible and we loved it, although our brand of sarcasm may have lost a bit in translation.
Next stop was a trip the the museum of contemporary art. Now I know that’s not the norm for a norther gamer but I really did enjoy myself. One or two of the exhibits I thought were a bit pretentious but the rest was really good and made for a good way to spend some time. We then went to the planetarium and whilst I enjoyed that I thought admission was a bit pricey for what it was. Although being a bit of space geek I loved some of Gemini and Apollo exhibits they had there. Getting a close up look at one of the Gemini capsules and knowing that a crew spent four days in there is amazing because I was complaining about nine hours on a plane.
We ended the day with a bit of something to eat and a few drinks at the Sweetwater tavern, although the few beers tuned into a few more and we didn’t leave until closing time. A bit of a walk back to hotel helped clear the head at the end of a good day.
Wednesday (today) was was our last day in Chicago or really a half day as we had to check out of the hotel at noon. Breakfast was a diner just round the corner from the hotel and the food here was much better than Tuesday. No gimmicks just a good old fashioned diner with lots of coffee. We then had a bit of a walk round the city snapping a few photos and generally just killing a bit of time in the fresh air. Lunch time was check out and an Uber up or over to Schemburge for the main event.
We are now checked into the hotel and things are due to start tonight when we can collect tickets then four days of hobby mayhem.
So that’s a wrap for Chicago, good bye to the windy city, and hello Schemburge.
