Weekly Waffle #261

Not much of an update for you this weeks weekly waffle, not that I’ve lost my mojo or anything like that. I’ve just had a lot going on and even in these times of lockdown, I’ve just not had the time to really get anything done. Work on the Trukk cab has virtually ground to a halt as all I’ve done is make a couple of window frames for the windscreen. No details or bars on them yet, in fact I haven’t even actually fitted them to the rest of the cab so no pictures there for you.

But I have managed to get a little bit of hobby time in and I wanted it to be something I could see results from. So I’ve mixed up the build and paint process, but because the whole trukk design is sort of modular that’s ok. Or it is in my head. I’ve taken the W12, twin turbo engine and added a hint of nitrous to it for when you need that little bit extra. But to make it extra special I’ve given it at red paint job, because we all know red is fast. Then just for that little extra that only a really good grot rigger would think of I’ve given it some shiny red headers. The result is a fully plumed and ready to go engine. All it needs now is the rest of the trukk and it will slot right in.

I’ve also had a supply drop this week courtesy of some late night internet shopping with Green Stuff world. First up was some exciting new milliput so that I could keep churning out those nuts and rivets although they didn’t have any of the normal stuff in stock. So I’ve gone with the extra fine which is black instead. This is a silly thing to say but I’m going to say it anyway. The extra fine really is finer. Now to clarify my stupidity when I ordered it I didn’t think I would notice any difference as all I’m doing is pressing something out of a silicon mould. But there is a noticeable difference between what I’m going to call normal and the extra fine. Just how noticeable it will be on a model with a coat of paint won’t matter, it just means that I have been able to keep the production line ticking over. I’m currently getting about two batches a day completed and I’m going to try and just keep that going. After all I have to have something to when I’m stuck on a Skype call, conveniently the video doesn’t work. The result is slow progress but I may get to a point where I need separate tins for different sizes, or I may just do that anyway simply because I can.

I also seem to have filled my green stuff cable maker away in that special location that is so secure you will never find it again, ever. Which is a real challenge in my house. So I decided to go large and ordered the XL version which comes with some handy guide pieces that will help keep everything the same size. I like this one but I must admit I made a bit of mistake when ordering it. I wrongly thought that it would make the same sort of cables you could just make the longer. In actual fact what it does is make the grooves in the cable larger, and you can also make them longer. So I think will pick up another of the standard one’s next time I make an order just to round things out. But I now have something new to play with so that’s always a winner.

That’s it for this week. I’m hoping things will calm down a bit now we have a long weekend, at least here in the UK we do. My plan is to crack on with the Trukk and see where it takes me. But most of all I’m going to relax and enjoy a break from work. I hope you can all do the same and I with a fair wind I will catch you all back here again next week for another exciting, well that might be stretching things a little, instalment of the Weekly Waffle.
