The best laid plans of mice and men springs to mind to open this week’s waffle. My intention for the week was to make a start on the Grot Bots and also to work out if I had enough material to actually build them all and if not get it ordered. I knew I shouldn’t need anything to fancy, just plastic tubing and box section of the right size to make the job that bit easier. Well that was the plan but reality has been very different this week. I’ve had quite a bit of travel to do for work so I missed game night again this week which was a bummer. After having that first game of War Cry I was really looking forward to getting another game in. But we do have Blackstone Fortress day planned for next weekend so fingers crossed I should get some gaming in then.
Now I did start out with the intent of getting some build work done but when I sat down to start I was in more of a painting mood, so I thought I’d just a bit of something to get me going and then get started on the bots. Well that may have been the plan but things didn’t pan out that way. I decided to have a dabble at some Infinity Yu Jing I had started a long time ago but had never got beyond the base colours. I didn’t have any particular reason for picking these up now other than the fact that they are yellow, which is a challenge, and that they were there. The aim was really just to spend half an hour dabbling with them and then I would get fed up and move onto starting on the bots. But I got carried away and all of my limited hobby time this week has gone into painting.
Like I said I had already started on these guys so I’ve not actually done a great deal with them but I have enjoyed the time I’ve put into them. Yellow is just one of those colours that I, like lots of others, really struggle with but I think these have turned out quite nice. There is still work to do on them but the overall look is where I want it to be and to be honest I don’t think these will ever find their way on to a table top. I picked them up a long time ago when a few of us were dabbling with Infinity but we never really got the bug, despite it being a really good and engaging game. Just one of those things I guess. But I still love the models and whilst they can be very fiddly to put together, which isn’t helped with them being metal so very hard to pin, they are joy to paint.
Whilst in the zone of returning to painting unfinished projects I’ve also added few layers of paint to a Dark Angels chapter master that again has been sat on work bench for a few years. This still has a long way to go and may well end up back in a corner as I have no use for the mini, but progress is progress.
For me I’ve really enjoyed my hobby time this week which at the end of the day is what it’s all about. It’s been helped by watching Al do his first unboxing video on YouTube which is a good watch for anyone interested in some chaos / beast themed terrain. You can find it on the Red Rose Wargaming channel. I’ve mentioned the battle reports before but this is the first unboxing on there and it’s terrain that was purchased and not donated for a review.
So that’s another week coming to a close and still no nearer on the Grot Bot front. The sobering thought though is that I only have six full weeks before I leave for Adepticon, as I’m having a few days in Chicago before the conn. I’m hoping that means that the panic will set in over the next couple of days and I will frantically start working to get them completed before I go. Until then though I hope you enjoy your hobby time and don’t get terrify yourselves with silly deadlines. And with a fair wind I will catch you all again next week.
