I’ve had a bit of a break this week to try and recharge my batteries ahead of a final push to finish off the Warlord in a few weeks so it’s quite a short weekly waffle. It’s also seen something of gauntlet thrown down whilst I was out with Pete for a few beers over the weekend but I’ll get to that in a little while.
First up this week I’ve got a gaming update for you. Yes, I know it’s something of rare thing for me to actually get a game in, unless it’s been a D&D session. But following the taster session we had playing Black Stone Fortress I’m inspired to play again, at least for a while. So game night this week saw me joining in on a game of Black Stone Fortress that started the week before. Now this works because of the way the game is set up because each time a party returns to Precipice you can swap out members of the expedition. That allows different people to have their own character but means that when someone can’t make it someone else can jump in and still keep the expedition going. This week Corry was playing War Cry so I got a chance jump into the adventure playing the Navigator. I think I’ve mentioned it before but for me it’s the cooperative nature of the game that I like, It’s your and your friends against the game. Although to be fair the way I was rolling dice I think everyone thought it was me and the game against them. We divide the hostiles up and each of us controls one squad rolling to see what they do and then what damage they may do. Well I had a really good run of high numbers for their actions and quite a few critical for damage. Fortunately, everyone managed to make their saves right up until the end. It looked like were going to make it out of the ambush with no wounds until half of use were on the elevator on the way out. Then I rolled a really good reserve roll and filled the room with traitor guard’s men, Pete made it out unscathed but Al took a grievous wound. But it’s this uncertainty that really makes the game work for me. The ebb and flow from everything looking good to everything goring pear shaped just keeps you on edge. All in all, a really good game and I’m looking forward to next week.
Now then onto this gauntlet that has been slapped firmly across my face. Sounds a bit dramatic that but it’s all in good humour. Sunday was Colne Blues Festival so I had an afternoon in the sun meandering between pubs listening to all manner of music with friends. A really good way to spend and afternoon. Anyway one topic of conversation that came up was hobby and me being quizzed about when, if every I was going to get my Titan finished. My response was that I needed to change things up a bit and that I was going to build and paint some more grot bots. Now or those of you have haven’t seen my pervious effort it was a way of scratch building orc robots and they turned out like this:
I made these quite a long time ago when I as was still playing 40K and my intention was always to make more of them. But it took me that long to make these that I just never got round to making any more. So after a few beers I said was going to build and paint up a new squad, with a new squad being eleven boys and a nob, as they all need to fit in a truck. But I didn’t say anything about building a new truck. Whilst I appreciate that may not sound like much of a challenge when you are methodical as me that is a lot of work. And with the exception of the weapons everything on these guys is scratch built from plasticard, or plastic shapes such as tubes and box section. Which makes for a lot of fiddly repetitive work so keeping the motivation up could be just as hard as working on the Warlord. But if mix and match between the two that should be ok. I’ve also got some ideas about how I can tweak the original design to iron out a couple of bits that I’m not quite happy with on the originals. Nothing major but they are changes that will probably end up adding a lot of time the build, just because that always seems to the case with me. If things go well a may even throw in a few magnets to allow for different special / heavy weapon options and to allow the nob to have few different weapon options. Then if I’m feeling really stupid I may even make some shields so they can be used a Ard boys, but to be fair that may be taking things to far even for me.
So the first step is going to be to measure one of my existing bots so that I know what parts a need to order and then I will make sure I order enough of everything so that I don’t run out at some critical point. Then I’ll have to whip the grot riggers into shape and get the production line running. Six months from start to finish is the deadline and knowing what I’m like I can easily burn through that by just losing a bit of motivation or what is more likely being distracted with something new and shiny. So it’s going to be up to you lot keep me honest and plodding on and I’m not going to have it hat Pete is right on this one and I can’t stay focused long enough to get them done. But then again Aeronotica has just gone up for pre-order!
That’s it for this week and I’m not making any predictions about what I will or more likely won’t get done this week, but I will have something for you again next week. So unit then have a great week.
