I missed game night this week and I’m gutted as the plan was to start a Black Stone Fortress campaign. Having said that it’s not the end of the world as there still chances to get involved but it would have been nice to be there from the start. So instead of having fun and playing games I was having to write a personal statement and job application as we are having a restructure at work and I need to go through the process of applying for my own job. So I was stressing out trying to get things completed but it’s not all bad as I’ve now got the first stage completed so it’s now into the waiting game to see if make through to the next stage. At the end of the day there isn’t anything else I can do now and it doesn’t mean I will be out of work if it doesn’t go well, I’ll just go back into a previous role. So with that personal bit out of the way let’s get into the weekly waffle proper.
On the hobby front I’ve had my noise pressed back to the grind stone this week for more work on what is really turning into something of Forth Bridge project. Yes, you guessed it, it’s been more work on the Warlord. Now I have to say that I have been making something of a rod for my own back with this build and that wasn’t helped this week with the arrival of some additional weapon and head options for it. Yes, I know I said I wasn’t going to get anything else until I’d finished this but I’ve been toying with the idea of getting these for a while now and I just sort of crumbled. But I have got stuck in straight away and made some good progress. Now because of the way I had magnetised the previous arms I’ve now got a few options of how I assemble things that allows me to throw in a few different colour options in the form of either turquoise, red or one hazard striped option which mixes things up nicely.
First up we have a couple of new heads and I’ve decided to go with Red as the main colour for these. Mainly because the Warlord is quite a large model and with so many turquoise armour plates it needs something to break things up a bit. Putting a red head in the centre of all that Turquoise does just that, I think. These is just the heads that come on the weapon sprue and all I’ve done is add a magnet to the back, nice and simple. There’s still some detail work to do but I’m happy with the main colour.
Next up we have the shoulder mounted Laser Blasters and you will start to notice something of a theme here as I’ve also gone with red for these. Or at least the armour panels are red and the main elements have been just been done in a variety of different metallic shades. It’s just a dark metal with a silver dry brush, then a Nuln Oil wash before going back with the silver to pick out the highlights. I then use a combination of oxide, brass and copper to pick out different details and add a bit of interest. The barrels with eventually get a laser / plasma effect but i didn’t want to go with too many different colours as I thought that it would just end up looking to busy.
Next up we have the Power Claw and I did go with talon like option here instead of making it more of power fist. I just thought it looked a bit more chaotic which fits with the back story I have for this legion where it’s not clear if they are linked to the Alpha Legion or not. I do like the other version but it just didn’t look sinister enough. My original plan was to go with hazard strips but the thought of masking everything was a bit too much so I went with red again which is in keeping with all the other weapons.
Then it was time for the Plasma Annihilator and as I hadn’t finished the original Volcano Cannons that I still haven’t finished. Again I’ve gone with red for the armour plates and the same metallic finish as I used on the laser blasters. Still not finished but they are getting there, all be it slowly.
I suppose there is enough paint on it at the moment to be able to play them but I do want to get it finished so I will be plodding away at over the next week, or that should really be next few weeks. The weather is horrible here so I think I will be spending the rest of the day in the company of Audible working away to see how much can get finished. It’s my dad’s birthday tomorrow so I won’t get much done as I’m taking him out then it will be to the grind stone on Monday to carry on with the gold trim. I hope to catch you all again next week so until then have a good one and my the hobby and dice gods shine on you.
