I’m going to start this weekly waffle with a tale of woe that I’m also letting double up as the reason I haven’t done as much work as I should. So what is the catastrophe that has befallen me this week. Well it’s one you will all be familiarly with if you been doing the hobby for length of time and that is not paying attention whilst wielding a craft knife. Now just to put this into perspective the only thing that has really be hurt is my pride at being such a buffoon. Simply put whilst trimming up some bases I’ve got bit carried away and put what I would refer to as a really good paper cut in the end of my index finger. But being the wimp that I am it’s been giving be jib all week. It’s just in the perfect position to get in the way of everything I’ve been trying to do. Even to the point that for the first day or so just using a keyboard, and drive one of those for a living, would open it. I also found out that bleeding on a keyboard doesn’t generate sympathy from your co-workers. And I can for a moment imagine why they laughed so hard when I said it was down to typing so fast.
Nothing to report on the gaming front this week and I don’t think we have anything planned for next week. People away on their jollies and such like so in theory I should have more hobby time. Although that doesn’t seem be working out.
On the hobby front this week has seen me finish off the Atlantis Miniatures Dwarf I’d started, and to be fair I had nearly finished it last week. So it’s not that much of a statement to say that is now finished and I really like how it turned out. It’s a great model and I will certainly be looking at picking up a few more from them. Or at least I will if they get them back in stock.
With this first one completed I’ve started work on three more that all have different weapons just to keep me ticking over. As I said above I’ve made slow progress but I have been enjoying myself. Whilst I’m going with the same basic colours for them I’m going to try and mix them up a bit with different hair colour and some small changes to the skin tones. Both things I haven’t done much of but something that I want to work on and will add a bit of character to the finished squad.
As I mentioned at the start I have also been working on some bases which are basically just pieces of cork mounted on the standard bases. This is a slow but easy process in that I cut out the basic shape, apply some PVA glue and then leave them to set. The key here though is to leave them for a good long time to set. I try to leave them for three or four days. Then once they everything has set up I trim them up so the cork lines up with the base and I can start to rough them up to look more natural.
That’s been it for this week and I’m not going to make any predictions for next week. Except to say that I’m a big cycling fan and with Tour starting later today hoping that whilst I have it streaming I’ll be plodding away with the paint brush. But I’ll see how that plays out. I hope you all have a great hobby week and will catch you all again next week.
