In this weeks weekly waffle I became a dragon. It’s not often you get to open a post with something like that so I’m not going to pass up on the opportunity. There is a story behind it and I’ll cover it in a bit more detail when with an update on this week’s adventures in D&D land. As well as soring like a dragon I’ve also got a bit of my mojo back this week and that has been linked to the same adventure so all in all whilst it hasn’t been a particularly productive week it has been a fun one.
Last Saturday saw me drop my mum off at the airport for a trip to France, must remember to pick her up tonight, before heading off for another D&D session. Even though we had chased the orcs off we couldn’t burry the sword as planned but Hop convinced me, against my better judgment to see what happened if I struck it with my war hammer. Let me tell you now that it’s not a good idea. The result was me being paralyzed in my right arm and my hammer being cleaved in two. Not a good day, especially with the hammer being a named weapon that has a major tie into my character’s back story. But as I’ll cover later it was this incident that has rekindled my mojo.
With nothing more for us to do here we headed for the river only to find the town we head left a few days ago had been destroyed by the orcs so we managed to salvage a boat and head down river. During that voyage we came across the same band of orcs attacking a cloister and this is where thing got interesting. To even the odds Polymorph turned me into a juvenile dragon and I carried the others across the river and into the midst of the orcs, and their two giants. Now being a bard that tall will be told taverns around the world as me riding the dragon into combat as opposed to being the dragon. The result was an epic fight with all but one of the giants being destroyed and me banishing the remaining one. Or at least that’s the story I’m sticking to. But all in all a really good session. We won’t have another for a few weeks with people being on holiday but lots to work out when we get back together.
Now then with my character’s war hammer being destroy I’ve come up with the idea of the two halves being re-forged, Anduril style, into something new. I need to run it by our DM to see if she will be happy with it but she tends to go for things that have a story behind them. So assuming the idea gets the green light I will need a new model to represent my character. That got me looking for another dwarf model and I decided to pull the trigger on a little something from Atlantis miniatures. These turned up yesterday and I have to say my first impressions weren’t that positive as the packaging was just a series of baggies, wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a jiffy bag. But I have to say they arrived in good condition and the models look really nice. So without further ado I tried to get one of them painted up just to see what it would look like. I didn’t manage to get it finished but I’m happy with the progress and another half hour should see it completed.
Prior to the dwarf’s landing I had been making slow but steady progress on the Warlord by finally getting round to painting some hazard stripes. They are really easy to paint but a paint to mask up. The smaller panels are from the torso and are tucked away under the weapon arms which is why I’ve gone full hazards for them. My thinking is that it will be a bit of detail that shows through from the inside of the model. The other part has been the main shin armour plates and I’ve put the hazard strips on the inside. They are quite large so I thought going full strips on one would feel a bit over the top for the rest of the design. Hens doing the inside on both of them would break up the turquoise without going over the top. Or at least that’s how its panning out in my head.
Other than that I’ve managed to get a bit of colour onto the base which granted isn’t much progress but it’s something. Next up will be do go over it all with a combination of washes to add a bit of contrast before a final highlight. I take it to that stage and then once the legs are ready I will be able to mount them and start the weathering process to try and tie the two parts together.
That’s it for this week and with no gaming planned over the week end or next week I’m hoping to get a bit more progress in on the Warlord along with a Dwarf or two. I also need to finish up the details for my character’s new weapons along with some drawing to see if I can get our lovely DM to agree to them. So lots for me be cracking on with and hopefully something a bit varied for the next update. So until then I hope you have a great week and will see you all again next week.
