Weekly Waffle #215

No gaming of any sort this week as we as we had to cancel our D&D session on Sunday. But it’s not all bad news as the extra time allowed me to finish the albatross around my neck that the warboss was becoming. There are still a couple of little bits that I’m not a hundred percent happy with but it’s intended as a gaming piece, if I ever start playing 40K again so it needed finishing. Overall I like how it turned out and it’s also a fantastic model.

Just to give this guy some scale this his him along side a Dread.

With the boss completed I’ve been working on some plans for our D&D games. As I’ve mentioned before I’ve been doing some work to write up descriptions and back story for some taverns that we may or may not encounter on our journeys. Now I’ve put a lot of research into this piece work and drawn on years of hard won experience to come up something that I think fits the game. This week I’ve started to take things to the next level by actually drawing up the plans and trying to add a bit of character to them. I’ve been using a web site calls dungeon fog and with a bit of practice it allows you to come up with what I think are some really niece designs. It’s been a steep learning curve but with only a week of playing with it I’m now getting to the point where I can add lighting and other features to the plans. It can be a bit fiddly to use and if you get the sequencing of the build wrong it can take a long time to unpick things but overall I think it’s a fantastic tool. I’ve got lots of ideas that will be playing around with over the next few weeks and with a bit of look some of them may find their way into our games.

Whilst I’ve spent a lot of time this week working on the computer I have manged to get some what I’m going to call normal hobby time in. I’ve found a bit of renewed inspiration to go back to his barbarian I started some time ago and make a little bit of progress on it. The skin in just about done and I’m working on the leather at the moment. I’m going to keep things quite simple and just go with different shades of leather for just about all of him. The only bit of colour I’m planning doing is some turquoise for the cloth round his waist. I’m happy with how it’s going so I’ll just have to see how the rest of the week pans out.

That’s it for this week. My plans for this week are to carry on with the building designs and to try and get to grips with the different lighting effects. That’s going to be mixed in with working on the barbarian and I think that will be a nice mix to keep be busy. So until next week I hope you have a great week and I’ll I to catch up with all again next Saturday.
