Weekly Waffle #207

First full week of the year and it’s been a bit quiet. I’m getting back into the groove and whilst I understand that isn’t directly hobby related it has had the side benefit of warring me out so I have to have a sit down when I’ve finished. And I’ve decided that my sit down time will be at workbench and not in front of the TV. So in a roundabout way it’s helping with my hobby time. This week that hobby time has been put into more purely gaming pieces so it’s all about getting something that will look ok on the table top as opposed to trying to get everything perfect.

But what exactly have I been working on I can hear you all saying and the answer is Gene Stealer Cult for Kill Team. Specifically some Acolyte Hybrids to try and bulk out the points I need for a full team. I have to say that since I drew these as part of our kill team campaign I’ve not been feeling the love for them. Whilst I like some of the options available to Tyranids as a full army they are one of the races that has never really done it for me. I’ve tried with this kill team but even with these new models I’m still not feeling it. Having said that I have made an effort to bring my force up to scratch so that I at lease have enough points to field a full force. Although having said that all I’ve done so far is to build them up and start painting without looking how many points they will actually add to my force.

Because the aim here is to try and get them painted up as quickly as possible I decided to use the same colour scheme as I used for the cultists going with the orange for the clothing and white / ivory for the armour. The bit I was really unsure about was the colour of the skin but a quick google search came up with Duncan painting them in a purple colour so that’s what I went with. I didn’t actually have any of the colours he used so I just went with what I had because I didn’t want to get bogged down trying to work out a different colour scheme. Overall I’m quite happy with how it turned out but most importantly I’ve actually got quite a lot of done.

On the gaming front no D&D so far this week so Peregrine has survived for another week, long may this continue. Having said that we do have a game planned for tonight so I may be crying in the morning. Either way it will be good to get back into the adventure however it turns out.

Game night on Tuesday saw me watching Al and Dan playing Titanicus and I have to say I really do like of the game. Couple that with the minis and I can see myself crumbling here. Anyway back to the game. It was all looking good for Al right up until the end when he had killed all of Michael’s knights and just about crippled his Warlord only to find that he had overheated his reactor and blown himself up. A classic case of clutching defeat from the jaws of victory.

On the other table we had Pete and Mike playing kill team so it was dark elder against thousand sons. This turned out to be a classic case of play the scenario as the aim was for Pete to get his force across the table and off the other side. Unfortunately the thousand sons lost track of this and backed off to avoid an assault only to find the pesky pointy ears ignoring him and just ignoring him and running off the table to victory. So next week is all lined up for a couple of rematches.

One thing that did come out of this was that I volunteered to build some building for Titanicus. Al and Gaz both pick up the large terrain boxes and have only built a few of them. Al has cut all of his off the sprues and cleaned them up before putting them in bags but Gaz has just given me the sprues. So it’s going to be a lot of clipping and cleaning before I get round to building. But the ask is for at least a couple of four story buildings that can a warlord can hide behind to really break up the battle field. Didn’t realise just what I was getting myself in for but should be good once they are all done.

That’s it for this week and I think I’ve got my plans laid out for next week by continuing with the Nids and getting some work done on the buildings. I’m also hoping that a couple of D&D figures will be turning up soon so I can play around a bit with them. So until next week I hope you all have a good one and I’ll be back with another update next Saturday.
