Weekly Waffle #198

No game night for me this week courtesy of Northern Rail who cancelled three trains in a row on Tuesday day night, so I gave up in the end an when and caught the bus. Also no D&D this week as we couldn’t get everyone together at the weekend so it’s been no gaming at all for me this week.

On the hobby front I’ve taken the feedback from last week about the wings on the Bommba looking a bit to weedy and I’ve made some changes. I’ve added some extra wing mounts and the original idea was going to be to add another pair of short wings here. But whilst I have been waiting for the new wings to arrive I tried mounting the original long wings on these new mounts and I think they look really good.

So when the new wings turned up I’ve added them in place of the old wings and I think they look quite good in that configuration. It has meant I’ve had to hack some of the cables for the teleporta off to get the wings to fit and make a few other alterations but nothing to drastic. The plan will be to fit rockets to the upper wings and then bombs to the new shorter lower wings. Which to me will give the whole thing more of a K-Wing look. Being a bit of a magnet fiend I’m planning on making some mounting points for them so that I can tailor the load out later. Plus I think it will make things a little easier to paint.

I’ve still got quite a bit of work to do but I’ve managed to add the pieces that mask some of the joints between the different sections along with some additions gubbins to add a bit more character. The nose still needs to be fitted and then I will add some exhausts to round things off. Once that is all done it will be a case of adding bolts or rivets to all of the new panels to really make it look like it has been cobbled together. Although as I only have one mould for these it’s a slow process to get enough made to really go to town with them. I’ve been trying to give it the same sort of feel as I had for the converted Dread I made earlier in the year.

I’m really going to try and get this finished off for next week but I think I’ve got enough parts built up so far that even if I’ve not got everything done I may well start to paint some of the components such as the wings or the tail assembly which id don’t envisaged changing. The reason for this is that I have promised myself that I’m not going to buy any of the new buggies until this is finished. And I really want to paint up some of the new buggies.

Which brings me nicely onto the other new Orky purchase and that has been the new Codex. Having not had anything to do with 40k for some time I had big hopes for this. Unfortunately I found it to be massively underwhelming. I don’t know what I was expecting but with the exception of the new buggies I can’t really see anything new in there. A lot of this could be down to the fact that I don’t really understand the new rules, I’m still thinking in point’s terms not this power thing. Which I know will have an impact on how I’m viewing things. My hope is that when Al and Pete get a chance to read it they can let me know what is good and what’s not. But regardless of this I still think GW have missed a trick here as it could have been so much more interesting. For example where are ‘Mad Boys’? There isn’t much for Orks in the Psychic phase and ‘Mad Boys’ could have been a really nice way to bring that side of the game to the Orks. I know they have a ‘Weird Boys’ but it’s not the same.

That’s it for this week with a bit of look I’ll have some colour on some of parts of the Bommba for next week. I’m also hoping to have most of the build finished for then as well. As far as I can tell it’s mainly down to the little details but I know from experience that these can take a lot longer than planned, mainly because I keep having other ideas of bits and pieces that could look good here or there. Anyway I’ve got a plan so I’m going to crack on with it and see where it gets me. In the meantime have a great weekend and I hope to catch you all again next week.
