It’s been another mixed up week this week, I’ve had bit of cold so haven’t been in the most enthusiastic of moods. Al’s also been poorly this week so there was no game night which has meant that I haven’t done a great deal, again.
However it’s not all doom and gloom. We got another D&D session in on Saturday which saw us back in the ice cave trying to get our hands on some gold. We made very slow work with this one and ended up getting some wild fire potion from the Tinkers which we used in very small amounts to melt sections of the ice to get the gold out. It was very cold in the cave so we worked in shifts and did quite well with things. To keep the band that had given us the tip out of the way some of the crew stayed with them at the tavern so the session effectively had two games running at the same time. We still have some work to do to get all the gold out but the highlights for the session was that the crew in the tavern nearly burned it down during the night by getting drunk on wild fire whisky. We left Orrakk unsupervised in the cave with the wild fire potion and he decided to see what would happen if he used a bit more. The result was quite spectacular bringing part of the roof down. And last but not least we picked up our new tinkers wagon. No session for us this week but we are hoping to pick things up again next weekend.
On the hobby front I’ve not made any progress on the Esher but I have done a bit of 40k that came out of left field. I’ve been wanting to have a play around with thinking about how light hits a model. I tend to imagine that the light is all round when I’m painting and not pick a fixed point and go with that. So I’ve picked up some Tau Stealth Suites, just because I like the look of them and then I’ve decided that the light will be coming from the front. I’ve arranged the models in a line but I’m imagining the ones on the side looking to the side so the on these guys the light will brighter on the side facing the light. Nothing special about any of this it’s just something I haven’t done before and I think that is because the model will only look like you really want it if you look at it from the right direction. Look from the other side it I think it will look to dark. Anyway I’ve made some progress on them.
I’ve also been doing some edge highlights on one of them which adds another element to them. On the edge highlight front I’ve used a couple of different shades so light colours on the light areas with the highlight getting a bit darker on the darker areas. What I’m trying to do is to get something that feel natural although I know this is the sort of thing that will take some practice. Whilst this isn’t a massive amount of work it’s been fun and a challenge.
That’s it for this week, not a massive updated but one that I’ve enjoyed doing. After getting my predictions for the next update wrong on to many occasions I’m not going to do that this week. I am going to try and get a bit more work done but I’ll just have to see how things pan out and what I come up with. I hope you all have a really good week and I hope to see you all again next weekend.
