Weekly Waffle #142

Well it’s been a really disappointing week this week. I don’t know why but I’ve just not managed to get anything done despite having quite of bit of time on my hands. In my defence I’ve been reading ‘The Dwarves’ by Markus Heitz which was a bit boring to start off with but has now really started to pick. The result has been me sitting there reading as opposed to getting on with some painting. In real terms it means that the sum total of this week’s work has been to add a base colour to one of my Yu Jing and to make a start on the Dwarf adventurer I picked up from Element last week after Al had kidnapped me. So all in all not a very productive week.

I’ve also splashed out a bit this week and picked up some fancy brushes and by that I mean Windsor and Newton series 7. My existing brushes had started to split and just weren’t keeping their point so I thought I would treat myself and see if these fabled beasts really are as good as legend would have us believe. Now I’m not expecting my painting to change as result, I know full well that a tool is only as good as the person wielding it. I just want to see if they work any better that the ones I have now and I think more importantly, with proper care, do they actually last any longer and the only way to find out is to take the plunge and give them a go. The other thing that sprang to mind once I had them in front of me and was looking at doing a bit of review article was that I had no idea what to cover in a review. That’s one to ponder and I’ll get back to you about it but for now here are the brushes.

So with that pitiful update done I thought it was time for a bit of Waffle. This weekend Al is again kidnaping me but it’s also a bit like putting the band back together. We will have the full Adepticon crew along with our favourite GW insider and quite few other friends all meeting up for a Stag Do. Now you may ask what this has got to do with table top gaming and the answer is very simple. If I hadn’t of got into the hobby I wouldn’t know any of these people and that’s something that is often overlooked. There is a perception that everyone who plays games is antisocial and hides away with couple of friends and never interacts with anyone else. Now that may be the case for some but I prefer to think of gaming as a social activity, after all you can’t really play a game on your own. Although that might give me a fighting chance of winning for a change. Now it might me because I’m not a great gamer that like to socialise and whilst peoples interests change over time friendships tend to last. Which is part of the reason we are all getting together this weekend. Although it will be interesting to see what sort of a state we will all be in after a weekend of stake eating, beer drinking and axe throwing but not necessarily in that order.

And that just about wraps things up for this week. I’ve scheduled this update to go out at the normal time as I’ve no idea what sort of a state I will be in this morning but there is a good chance there will be some level of hangover involved. Only to look forward to more of the same today. So I hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll catch you all again next week.
