Weekly Waffle #112

No game night this week and I haven’t even managed to get a game of Chupacabra in with all the traveling I’ve been doing. Considering the UK is not a large country I’ve certainly spent my far share how hours behind the wheel this week. Driving backwards and forwards, on a nearly daily basis, between the North West and the north east. Like I say the distances are vast but it eats up a lot of time. The only thing that has kept me sane has been my iPod on shuffle reminding me that I have what I am going to call a very eclectic taste in music. Making me smile and cringe in equal measure.

On the hobby front this week I actually made the time to sit down for a few hours and managed to knock out a Mannequin for my Smoke and Mirrors crew. I took my inspiration from the box art for this model, in fact I’m using the box art as a guide for all of the crew. So in this instance I wanted to go with an off white for what would normally be skin to represent the material the mannequin is made from. Then a nice bright colour for the bodice and legs to give a nice contrast. The final part was the external frame for the skirt which I did in a simple metallic. I thought about some other contrasting colour for this but decided to keep it simple in the end. For the base I’ve gone with the same textured plasticard I used for Cassandra which has been cut to give it a bit of shape. I have to say that I’m really happy with how the wood effect has worked on this one. Much better than my previous effort. So much so that I might even try and find the time to do a bit of step by step painting guide for it.

I also manage to get the last few details finished on Cassandra so she is also ready to go.

I’ve got a bit of a preview for next week now because I’m going to learn how to fly a space ship with Pete this afternoon and I’m just hoping I don’t get two hooked. Ok then so it’s not a real space ship but Pete is a big fan of Elite and there was a new release for it this week that allows other people in game to crew ships for you. So the idea is he is going to give me some training so that he can see what it looks like in game. The only down side I can see to it is that if I get hooked I will need to get myself and full VR set up to make the most of it and I will turn into a hobby hermit. Which what has happened to Pete since he’s started exploring the galaxy. Then if I don’t turn into lawnmower man we are going to go out for a few beers tonight. Which will be nice because missing out of game night over the last few weeks has meant I’ve not had chance to socialise. Which for me is one of the best things about our hobby.

Anyway that’s it for this week. Have a good week and I’ll catch you all again next week.
