Weekly Waffle #106

It’s been another manic week with work so once again I haven’t had a great deal of time to get any hobby in. Having said that I’ve been making steady, if somewhat, slow progress with the Deathwatch. This week I’ve managed to get all the bases painted up and the models mounted so if needed they could be used in a game now. But there are still quite a few details that still need completing. I’ve said it before about these guys but there are so many details, which I’m not complaining about, it seems like you’ve got everything covered and then you notice something else that you’ve missed. Having said that I think I’m on the home straight with them now and a bit of concentrated effort should seem the completed.

Now I’m really going try hard this year not to get too carried away and just keep buying models that will either sit a queue for ages or bump something out of the queue. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to buy anything else I’m just going to try and plan things a bit better. So no more Deathwatch this month once these guys are finished. Instead I’m going to try and get the Astra Miltarum finished off.

But I think I’ve got the 40k bug again so I’m definitely going to expand on what I have. I’ve had a bit of a thing for the Deathwatch for some time and after a search of my bits box I’ve found a stash of metal Deathwatch shoulder pads that I picked up back in the days when you could order single parts for the Games Workshop Troll. So gives me the option to kit-bash some more veterans without having to duplicate models, and given the fact that all the members of the Deathwatch are supposed to be unique I think this opens up some nice options.

Going forward I’ve been looking for an excuse to pick up one the Forge World Iron Circle Dominators and I think I’ve now found that excuse. Step up what will be my Deathwatch Dreadnaught. My plan is to swap out the shoulder mounted weapon for a dreadnaught ranged weapon and then simply add some Deathwatch / Inquisitor iconography and there you go. A nice simple conversion / kit-bash that will allow me to paint up a model I really like the look of and add something a little bit different to my growing force.

And that’s it for this week. Not the greatest of updates and as I mentioned last week I think it’s going to be like this for a couple of weeks with the amount of travel I have lined up for work. But on a positive note this lack of hobby time hasn’t robed me of any mojo. I’ve had the notebook out and have pages of ideas for things to try out this year so even though I’m manic with work I’m still planning ahead. And if manage to pull off even a couple of the ideas I have I think this will be a very productive hobby year.

Have a good weekend and I hope to see you all again next week.
