Weekly Waffle #145
It’s been a real mixed bag for this week’s weekly waffle, I think I’ve finally manage to shake this cold that I’ve had for the last few weeks and have felt more human than I have in quite a while. Travel for this week has only been for a couple of nights and it was chance to work with guy I haven’t seen for a few years which was quite nice. To be honest it was really easy which was a nice change. On the hobby front I’ve not picked up a paint brush this week but I have spent a lot of time working on the Grot Bots I…
Weekly Waffle #144
It’s been another disappointing hobby week for me again for this weeks weekly waffle but this time I’m blaming it firmly on the Scottish. Yes I know it’s it a bit harsh to blame all my hobby woes on a single nation but it’s all their fault. Ok maybe not all of them but it’s certainly down to a couple of them. Let me explain. I’ve had a cold, well it’s really a near terminal case of man flue, for about six weeks and I just can’t seem to shake it. Now I thought I had just about broken its back when work send me up to an undisclosed location…
Weekly Waffle #143
This week’s weekly waffle update is going to be a little bit sparse on real content and more a ponder on what will be in the future and when I say sparse I mean really sparse. But I do have an excuse for not getting any hobby in this week and that is that I’m still recovering from last weekend. And that isn’t necessarily from the amount of food and alcohol that was consumed as much as it was from seeing Al in a pair of Lederhosen’s. I tried to dissipate the trauma by sharing it on twitter but it didn’t really work and I’m not going to inflict it…
Weekly Waffle #142
Well it’s been a really disappointing week for this week’s weekly waffle. I don’t know why but I’ve just not managed to get anything done despite having quite of bit of time on my hands. In my defence I’ve been reading ‘The Dwarves’ by Markus Heitz which was a bit boring to start off with but has now really started to pick. The result has been me sitting there reading as opposed to getting on with some painting. In real terms it means that the sum total of this week’s work has been to add a base colour to one of my Yu Jing and to make a start on…
Dystopian Wars – Fleet Basing Guide
I can’t find anything in the rules that says you have to base your ships for Dystopian Wars but they do look much nicer on the table top if they are based. It took me a while to get round to basing by fleets but once I found a method that I thought looked ok and was reasonably easy to reproduce there was no stopping me. Now if something isn’t based it just looks wrong. So having been through the anguish of wanting to base but not knowing how I thought I would share with you how I base my ships. First things first and that is what size…
Weekly Waffle #141
Where to start for this week’s weekly waffle. I’ll think I’ll kick things off with a bit of look into the future and since the debacle of not being able to book a room at the venue for Adepticon next year I’ve been keeping an eye on the site, checking every day, waiting for the registration to open. The dates are now up with the preview due to be live on Friday the 3rd of November and booking going live on Friday 17th of November. So these dates are now in calendar with numerous reminders set so I don’t miss anything. I’ll need to do some working out when the…
Weekly Waffle #140
I’ve mixed things up again for this weeks weekly waffle by shifting back to Dystopian Wars, although I still haven’t managed to the game with Pete finished. I know I’m just delaying the inevitable but I’ve been full a cold this week and feeling sorry for myself so I’ve not ventured out of the house, other than having to go to work. Spent my evening nursing a cup of tea and waiting for my head to explode. But whilst I haven’t got any gaming done I have made some progress with my Empire of the Rising Sun Fleet. The carrier is nearly complete, just some of the details left to…
Weekly Waffle #139
First of all this weeks weekly waffle I want to apologise for missing last week’s update. I’d spent most of the week decorating so I didn’t have much of an update anyway but when I came to update things on Friday evening I had some prompts for server updates so just went ahead and started them. The long and short of that was that these updates were still running on Saturday morning and by the time things got completed I’d just run out of oomph to get anything done. The end result was no update, I’m quite surprised that I’ve actually manged to do xxx updates without missing anything so…
Weekly Waffle #138
This has been something of a bitter sweet weekly waffle. Once again I’ve not had to do much in the way of travel so I’ve managed to get some gaming in, I’ve managed to get some hobby in and I’ve managed to catch up on Game of Thrones. So that all falls under the Sweet but then the bitter is linked to a kick starter but I’ll come back to that later. First of all me and Pete managed to carry on with our game this week and my efforts in the intervening week to figure out how to make use of the French didn’t really pay off. We probably…
Dystopian Wars – Republique of France – Painting Guide
This has been the project that has caused me the most consternation ever. I have liked the Dystopian Wars models for the Republique of France since I first saw them; in fact I think they are some of the best models in the entire game. So it should be a no brainer to pick some up and get painting. The problem is that being ex Royal Navy I haven’t been able to bring myself to paint a French fleet. I know it’s silly but there you go. Anyway I kept going back and looking at the models but I didn’t have a paint scheme in mind until now. I wanted…
