Weekly Waffle #99
I’ve been on the road again this week so no game night for me to update you on the weekly waffle. In fact I haven’t had a great deal of hobby time either. But all this travel has given me some material for a bit of a waffle. Like a lot of people I have fallen out of love with Games Workshop over the last several years. There was a time when going to the doubles tournament at Warhammer world was a regular event. Something we didn’t even think about, we just booked the tickets as soon as they were available, stopped in the same hotel and generally had a…
Weekly Waffle #98
For this week’s weekly waffle there was no game night again so a chance to make a start on a new project, or really an extension of what I’ve already been working. I’ve really enjoyed painting up the Deathwatch Kill Team so I decided to carry on and picked up the Deathwatch Cassius Kill Team. I’ve liked these models since the boxed game came out so being able to pick them up as a set of models without the game is great business idea for GW. And this got me thinking about something GW said earlier this year that didn’t really make sense to me at the time. They said…
Weekly Waffle #97
No game night for this week’s weekly waffle so in theory I’ve had some more time to get some painting in. In reality that’s not turned out quite how I thought it would. Whilst I’ve been working on finishing off my Deathwatch I’ve also started watching Falling Skys on Netflix so I haven’t got as much painting done as I planned. But I have finished watching season one and cracking on with season two at the moment. On the hobby front I’ve decided to go with a technical type of base for the Deathwatch and green stuffed up some bases for them. It was a struggle to try and think…
Weekly Waffle #96
For this weeks weekly waffle game night saw the culmination of our four way Dystopian War game. Although after Corries efforts last week it was now down to a three way game with the Brits now being out of the picture. But his efforts had left the remaining Russian ships with quite a lot of damage, and in the Fleet Action rules every point of damage you are carrying removed one successful dice from you success pool. Which proved to be very frustrating this week. The dice gods were playing games with all of us this week with me being last in every initiative roll which meant the other decided…
Weekly Waffle #95
Ok then where to start for this week’s weekly waffle, first of all I’ll apologise for this update being later than normal. As I mentioned last week I’ve been away from home all week on a training course for work so didn’t get chance to get any gaming in. But the Dystopian game did continue and comrade Corrie stepped in to take charge of my fleet. Now I don’t have all the details yet but apparently, he gave Al a bit of pounding and I gained 13 victory points for me. A lot more than I had before he took command, so I may find myself being demoted after this.…
Weekly Waffle #94
Game night for this week’s weekly waffle saw us get a couple more rounds Dystopian Wars in. With hindsight going for a four way game as our introduction to Fleet Actions may not have been the best idea but it is generating some interesting game play. Al’s Britianian fleet has been picking on Dan’s Black Wolf fleet with some devastating ramming action. I lost my first ship to fire from Dan’s Manticore and Pete has continued to harass Al’s dreadnaught that has now taken seven points of damage (out of ten). But we also learned that the Brits have a special rule where they can repair damage at the end…
Weekly News Roundup
Weekly Roundup for the 23rd October. Well I missed out on an update last week but there were a couple of things that caught my eye so I’ve added them this week’s finds. Malifaux Transdimensional Express http://www.customeeple.com/product/malifaux-transdimensional/ First up we have the Malifaux Trandimensional Express from Customeeple which I think is really nice. The full set is €65 (Euros) and for that you get a locomotive and three carriages along with some track. Also each element is available individually so if you wanted to make your train longer you can just pick up some new carriages. Track is also available separately so you can expand your rail empire to your…
Weekly Waffle #93
Game night for this weeks weekly waffle saw us continuing with our four way Dystopian Wars battle and I’m happy to report that the mighty Russians are still in the battle. Although one of Gun Ships has taken a points worth of damage. Everyone else has lost a least a couple of ships but to be honest they only reason I haven’t lost more is that I can’t get into range. The battle moved away from me right at the start and I have been playing catch up ever since. That is good in one way because I have received the least attention and as such the least damage. On…
Weekly Waffle #92
Game night for this weeks weekly waffle saw the start of what we are planning to be a month of Dystopian Wars with us starting a four way game of fleet action. To be honest it got off to a bit of slow start because I hadn’t written a list so the first part of the evening was spent with me writing up a Russian and a Black Wolf list. The reason for the two lists was so that Dan who hasn’t played Dystopian Wars before could have a choice of fleets, with me using whichever one he didn’t want to use. We settled on 850 points for the simple…
Foundry Paints Review
I’ve heard people talking about Foundry paints and in particular the way they package them with a shad, main and highlight colour all together but I’ve never actually come across them in person. Whilst at the Derby World war game show recently I took the chance to have a look at their booth and picked up their ‘dusky skin’ set. I picked these up with something of a dual purpose, the first was to use them whilst painting my Malifaux Troubleshooters crew and I’ve used them as examples in this article. The other was to get a feel for how they put these together so that I can see if…
