    Weekly Waffle #22

No gaming club for this week’s weekly waffle so I’ve spent the whole week just focusing on cracking on with Guild Ball. The bulk of my time this week has been spent working on the Fisherman’s Guild. The poses on these models make them harder to paint than the Alchemists and I’ve struggled to come up with a colour scheme that I’m happy with. The obvious choice was to go down the route of the studio painted models but I know I just couldn’t do that justice and would never be happy with what I ended up with. So I kept the idea of working with blue as the main…

    Holding models whilst painting

When I started painting I didn’t really understand the need not be putting your fingers all over your freshly painted miniatures. It was all about getting things painted as fast as I could so I could use them. But when I started taking a bit more care with my painting I started to notice marks on the minis caused by the way I was handling them. And that was when I stared to look at different way to get around this issue. There are loads of different things you can use but this is what I find myself doing when holding models whilst painting. I get bags of corks ether…

    Weekly Waffle #21

I had my first game of Zombiside on Tuesday for this week’s weekly waffle and have to say that I really enjoyed it, even if my so called mates left me to be eaten alive after rushing to their aid. For such a simple concept the game play is fantastic and it really draws you in. If you’ve not played it and you get the chance I would highly recommend it. It’s easy to pick up, engaging and most of all fun. I had a really good night playing it and will certainly be playing again. On the hobby front I’ve been concentrating on trying to get my Alchemist’s finished…

    Weekly Waffle #20

I’ve managed to get a few different games in for this week’s weekly waffle starting with Star Wars X-wing last Sunday. We had a bit of mash up with a six player three way battle. Two Imperial, two rebel alliance and two scum & villainy. I was on the rebel side and used Dash in the Outrider along with an E-wing. Things went well to start with until the Imperials and Scum decided to pick on me and turn the Outrider into a pile of scrap. We didn’t play the game out to the end because we just ran out of time but it’s fair to say that scum were…

  • Dropper Pot Paint Labels

This is a solution to a problem of my own making. To save a bit of space I keep my Vallejo paints in an MDF rack stood on top of my desk. It’s a great way to store them and there are lots of companies out there making this type of rack so they are easy to find. But not all my paints are in a dropper pot. But I have found is that over time the label on the paint pot rubs off and the more you use a particular paint the quicker it rubs off. Not a problem in and of itself but it can be an issue…

  • Weekly Waffle #19

This week’s weekly waffle has seen me continuing with both my Black Wolf Fleet for Dystopian Wars and the Alchemist Guild for Guild Ball. Although it’s fair to say that the bulk of my time has been spent on the Black Wolf fleet. I just seemed to get into a flow with them and have really enjoyed painting them. It’s been a bit of trial and error with them but I’ve got the colour scheme nailed down now. Even though the Ghost Tint never seemed to dry. Or to be more precise it felt dry to the touch be seemed to bleed through when I tried to apply any colour…

  • Bottling Inspiration

I come up with ideas all the time for new and fanciful projects, be it colour schemes for models or some weird and wonderful scratch build or conversion. But if I don’t do anything about it by the time I get round to doing anything all I can remember is that I had a really good idea, but I’ve no idea what it was. So to aid a failing memory I have a couple of suggestions. My way of bottling inspiration First up there is the old school option and that is to write them down on a piece of paper or better yet in a note book, as and…

    The Road to AdeptiCon #1

So a couple of months ago I was out for a beer with my mate Al and he asked me if I fancied going to Adepticon next year (2016). He’d been to Gen Con with another fried last year and they’d both decided to go to Adepticon for their next gaming trip. I’d declined the offer to go to Gen Con with them because from all the footage I’d seen from previous years it seemed like it would be just to manic to really enjoy. And from what they said when they go back that certainly seemed to be the case. However everything I’ve heard about Adepticon has lead me…
