Weekly Waffle #149
For this week’s weekly waffle with the Adepticon tickets booked my mojo has started to return although I’ve not actually picked up a paint brush for some time, with the exception of the one I use for my MekPack. I have however been working away on the grot bot project which has sort of taken on a life of its own. It’s no longer a simple case of building some new grot bots but has turned into some other weird grot creation. More of a grot bot mark 2, bigger, faster, stronger sort of thing. This hasn’t been a conscious decision but has been more of slow evolution as I’ve…
Weekly Waffle #148
I’m going to start off this week’s weekly waffle with a controversial subject that is nothing to do with gaming. It’s to do with a famous drink that I don’t particularly like. But everyone says you have to try it in Ireland because that’s where it’s from and it tastes much better. So having spent this week in Belfast I’ve made the trip to the Crow and had a pint of the black stuff but here’s where I get really controversial. I wasn’t impressed. Don’t get me wrong there was nothing wrong with it but it was just uninspiring, nothing special. What they did have however was a rather fantastic…
Weekly Waffle #147
So what have I got for you this weeks weekly waffle? The doldrums haven’t quite cleared yet but there are some signs of change on the horizon. I’ve spent the first part of the week looking at the catalogue of events and seminars for Adepticon and trying not to simply put myself down for everything. There are lots of seminars that I really want to go to but I’m not sure how practical that will be and I’ve not even looked at the games yet. This could be a very tough week trying to get the list down to something that is actually manageable. I’ll also need to spend some…
Weekly Waffle #146
Doldrums – a state of inactivity, listlessness or stagnation. Now how’s that for an opening line in a weekly waffle. But I’ve decided it just about sums up my hobby mojo at the moment. I’ve not lost my love or my desire to hobby it’s just that I can’t seem to get myself moving to make things happen. I’ve got a few projects I can and should be working but when I sit at my desk to try and crack on with things I just can’t get started. I normally like to listen to an audio book when I’m painting and one of things may be that I’ve nothing to…
Weekly Waffle #145
It’s been a real mixed bag for this week’s weekly waffle, I think I’ve finally manage to shake this cold that I’ve had for the last few weeks and have felt more human than I have in quite a while. Travel for this week has only been for a couple of nights and it was chance to work with guy I haven’t seen for a few years which was quite nice. To be honest it was really easy which was a nice change. On the hobby front I’ve not picked up a paint brush this week but I have spent a lot of time working on the Grot Bots I…
Weekly Waffle #144
It’s been another disappointing hobby week for me again for this weeks weekly waffle but this time I’m blaming it firmly on the Scottish. Yes I know it’s it a bit harsh to blame all my hobby woes on a single nation but it’s all their fault. Ok maybe not all of them but it’s certainly down to a couple of them. Let me explain. I’ve had a cold, well it’s really a near terminal case of man flue, for about six weeks and I just can’t seem to shake it. Now I thought I had just about broken its back when work send me up to an undisclosed location…
Weekly Waffle #143
This week’s weekly waffle update is going to be a little bit sparse on real content and more a ponder on what will be in the future and when I say sparse I mean really sparse. But I do have an excuse for not getting any hobby in this week and that is that I’m still recovering from last weekend. And that isn’t necessarily from the amount of food and alcohol that was consumed as much as it was from seeing Al in a pair of Lederhosen’s. I tried to dissipate the trauma by sharing it on twitter but it didn’t really work and I’m not going to inflict it…
Weekly Waffle #142
Well it’s been a really disappointing week for this week’s weekly waffle. I don’t know why but I’ve just not managed to get anything done despite having quite of bit of time on my hands. In my defence I’ve been reading ‘The Dwarves’ by Markus Heitz which was a bit boring to start off with but has now really started to pick. The result has been me sitting there reading as opposed to getting on with some painting. In real terms it means that the sum total of this week’s work has been to add a base colour to one of my Yu Jing and to make a start on…
Dystopian Wars – Fleet Basing Guide
I can’t find anything in the rules that says you have to base your ships for Dystopian Wars but they do look much nicer on the table top if they are based. It took me a while to get round to basing by fleets but once I found a method that I thought looked ok and was reasonably easy to reproduce there was no stopping me. Now if something isn’t based it just looks wrong. So having been through the anguish of wanting to base but not knowing how I thought I would share with you how I base my ships. First things first and that is what size…
Weekly Waffle #141
Where to start for this week’s weekly waffle. I’ll think I’ll kick things off with a bit of look into the future and since the debacle of not being able to book a room at the venue for Adepticon next year I’ve been keeping an eye on the site, checking every day, waiting for the registration to open. The dates are now up with the preview due to be live on Friday the 3rd of November and booking going live on Friday 17th of November. So these dates are now in calendar with numerous reminders set so I don’t miss anything. I’ll need to do some working out when the…
