Weekly Waffle #267

Another very weir week where my hobby time has kept me sane. As I’ve mentioned before I’ve been dealing with some family issues and things came to a head this week and I thought I was heading into a long and protracted fight but I’m really happy to say I was completely wrong. I’m not going to go into detail, but the outcome has been that everything is not sorted out and I’m unbelievably relieved. I don’t think I had realised just how stressed I’d actually been until things got sorted out. So, all in all it’s been a good week. Another thing that this has highlighted is how good my friends have been through all of this so I’d like to put a big thankyou out there to them all for the simply being there and putting up with me.

On the hobby front I know I said last week that may plan was to try and finish off the Splintered Fang War Cry band, well that has gone out of the window. In fact, it’s so far out of the winddown It’s probably in a different county. Now I haven’t got fed up with them or decided that I need to do something different. Nothing of the sort and they will be completed in the not to distant future. It’s just that I got a bit distracted on another project.

Now I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve had the idea to make some Mek Guns and set them up to look like towed artillery pieces. I opened up the box for the Mek Gun I had really just to have a look at the pieces and think about how I was going to put it together, mainly thinking about how I was going to get the stabilizers to be able to fold in to act as towing arms. Well one thing let to another and before I know it was cracking on with the build. I’ve kept things simple on this one with the main changes being setting the stabilizers up to work for towing and to add some larger wheels. I found that with the original wheels the towing position just looked wrong, so it was a simple swap, just needing a small tweak to the wheel arches. I’ve then added a few bolts and cables for extra detail along with another terminal on the side of the gun and a light, just to keep Al happy, on the other side.

The build went a log more quickly than I thought, partly because I didn’t prevaricate over every decision and I just got on with it. And partly because I haven’t actually made that many changes. The end result is that I’ve got the build done in a couple of days and I’ve now started on the paint job. I haven’t got the paint job finished but I think it gives you a very good idea about how it will tie in with the trukk. I’ve even decided that the gun should have a similar strip to the trukk so that its clear which gun belongs to which trukk. I know this has no function in the game rules but I’m working on the rule of cool, and I think it looks cool. Which probably means it isn’t, but I don’t care.

That’s it for this week and whilst the updated is quite short I think I’ve got a lot done and I’m really happy with this week’s progress. Aims for the week will be to get the paint job finished on the gun and then I’m going to see what sort of mood I’m in. If that mood is painting, then it will on with Splintered Fang but if I’m in more of build mode then I have another Mek project lined up. I’m not going to say what it is yet, partly because I don’t want to spoil the surprise and partly because I don’t actually know myself. All I know is that I have donor model and an idea. So until next week, keep save and I hope to see you all again for the next update.
