Weekly Waffle #428 – Sorry I’ve Been MIA!

The Mojo

For this week’s weekly waffle I’m starting with an apology for missing the last two weeks. I’ve managed to go for about 18 months without missing an update but all good things dome to an end. The plan was I was always going to be skipping last week’s update because I was enjoying a short break in Cadiz. Dipping my toes in the Atlantic, eating Tapas and generally relaxing. Bu the plan I was going to inform you all about this break the week before.

But that is where things went to pot. I was on my own at work that week, just the way holidays worked out, and it was absolutely manic. I’m used to a level of manic but when you are covering tor two other people the level just went stratospheric. So the upset was that I didn’t manage to get any hobby time in that week. I didn’t even get chance to do a holding update saying what was going on. The upshot of that was that I’ve missed the last two updates.

And when it comes to painting this week isn’t going to be much better and I’m going to be sharing some work in progress pics with you as opposed to something I’ve actually managed to get done. But I would like to point out that the mojo hasn’t deserted me, it’s just that life outside of the hobby has been busy.

I hope you like what I have on the work bench, even if it’s only work in progress and I’m hoping to get back to a more normal service for you next week. But in the mean time have a look at what I’ve been working on.

On The Work Bench

I’ve gone a bit left field form me here and jumped into the world of 40K or more accurately Kill Team. When I saw the pictures of the Space Wolf kill team I got intrigued and thought they might make a nice project. It’s made up of five characters along with two Fenrisian Wolves. But there are rules for seven characters. Which means you have a few options when putting your team together. But the box set only allows you to make five miniatures, forcing you to lock into one build. I wanted to do things a little differently and give myself all of the options. So instead of using the specific Kill Team box set I used some Infiltrators because they had Protos pattern armour.

Whilst this has worked out and I think worked out well. If I was to do this again I wouldn’t use the Infiltrators as a start point. I would go with the Reiver, which was my original intent, but I got impatient and instead of ordering on line and waiting a couple of days. I instead walked past a shop that had the Infiltrators in and just bought it without thinking thing through.

The reason the Reivers would be a better chose is because the arm options are more dynamic. The Infiltrators are very boring in their look. This being the first time I have looked at anything relating to Primaris Marines I didn’t, and still don’t, have access to a bits box to play around with. All of mine are classic marine parts. But if you have a good bits box then your starting box may not matter.

I also got quite a few parts from CT Miniatues to make things look a little different. The backpacks and shoulder pads give them a different feel but I don’t think they change the feel of the minis too much. They are clearly still a scout squad and are armed so that they fit in well with the official minis.

Having all seven options opens up the gaming opportunities so I can mix things up between games. And it’s been good fun making them. Space wolves really do lend themselves to a bit of kit bashing.

They obviously don’t have any bases yet and I’m going to used some cork to try and give them a full on winter setting. Snow, ice and some foliage all on a rocky setting. I think it will work really well with both the minis and the feel for Space Wolves.

The Wrap Up

This is all I have for you this week. I have another busy week at work coming up but I’m really focused on making sure I bring you some painted content next week. The wolves won’t disappear but they will be on the back burner for a little bit because I really want to finish off some of the minis I already have primed and ready to go.
