Weekly Waffle #279
I’m being a good hobbyist this week and I’m bringing you my first finished project of the year. Yes, that’s right I’ve actually started and finished a project without being side tracked by something new and shiny. I know it’s only the project of the year and the odds of keeping this up all year are next to zero, but I’m going to take all the wins I can get this year and be proud of them. Now then do I think that everything is perfect with the mini and there is no room for improvement. Absolutely not. There are lots of bits that I think I could have done…
Weekly Waffle #278
Following on from what I know was a bit a lazy update last week I’ve actually got a new project on the go for you this week. It was nice to do a bit of retrospective for the first update of the year and to be honest it also allowed me to get a lot of the work done up front and not worry about what I was going publish. I know that I wanted to try and break the bad habits I’d dropped into over the last six months or so. It’s one of those things were if you miss one week then missing the week after is a…
Weekly Waffle #255
I’m really not sure just where to start this week as it’s been something that I’ve never experienced or even considered as being possible. It’s a times like this when having a hobby, no mater what it is could be the only thing that keeps you sane. In my case it is certainly helping. I was expecting to be bringing you an update from Adepticon today but instead of having spent the week exploring Chicago and then having some great times with a group of like minded gamers, I’ve found myself at home on my own seeing no one. Here in the UK, like lots of places around the world,…
Weekly Waffle #239
Well I missed the weekly waffle update last week but in my defence it was a significant birthday for me having survived to the half century mark so I was out with friends and the update just got forgotten about. Not that I have much of an update from the last two weeks but I didn’t’ want to skip another week. Game night last week was another Black Stone Fortress adventure, or more accurately it saw us continuing our adventure. We ended up with a couple of combat encounters but importantly we all managed to make it through and we managed to collect enough clues that we can now attempt…
Weekly Waffle #204
In this week’s weekly waffle it’s nearly time for the big fat man to come climbing down the chimney and if you are really lucky it may actually be Santa with a sack full of presents. I’m just hoping that with our change of IT supplier at work things will calm down a bit in the New Year and I’ll actually get some gaming in. I’m not exactly sure what form that gaming will take but both Necromunda and Kill Team seem like good contenders. I’m also quite keen to try and get Al on board for a dabble at the new Wild West Exodus. Even if it’s not actually…
Weekly Waffle #200
Bicentenary edition of the weekly waffle today and to be honest with you when I started this I didn’t even think that I would still be turning out content, albeit in limited volume, nearly four years later. The nice thing about it all though is the original reason for starting the blog was to help keep my motivation up. And whilst there have been ups and downs along the way to get to here overall I like to think I’m still in credit. Some things have changed in that time but other have stayed the same. Think the changes have been in the games I’m playing, or not as the…
Weekly Waffle #185
I’m going to do things out of order for this weeks weekly waffle and start off with games night. We’ve decided that we are all going to do a different Kill Team and then run a bit of campaign. But to add as much variety as we can we are all going to do a different team. I have a few ideas for what I would like to do but someone came up with the idea of it being a random selection. So we put all of the all of the different team into one pot and our names into another. Then it was just a case of picking a…
Weekly Waffle #183
I’ve had a change of pace for this week’s weekly waffle. No gaming at all for you but from my point of view that’s not all bad as one of my other passions has filled the void with the start of the Tour de France this week. Not to everyone’s taste but I’m quite happy to have the live coverage on all day whilst I’m getting in a bit of hobby time. Which is exactly what I have been doing this week. I’ve put the grot bomb-er to one side for a while as I’ve started to go a bit kit bash crazy and I’m now concentrating on getting some…
Weekly Waffle #160
Something of a mixed week this week for the weekly waffle with a few things getting in the way of hobby time. First of these is something that I think is worth sharing but has nothing really to do with hobby time. That’s been the release of Altered Carbon on Netflix I’ve been a fan of Richard Morgan for some time now so I was a bit sceptical about how this would turn out. But I’m glad to say that whilst they have played around with a few key elements in relation to the book they have done a really good job of staying true to the feel of the…
Dystopian Wars – Fleet Basing Guide
I can’t find anything in the rules that says you have to base your ships for Dystopian Wars but they do look much nicer on the table top if they are based. It took me a while to get round to basing by fleets but once I found a method that I thought looked ok and was reasonably easy to reproduce there was no stopping me. Now if something isn’t based it just looks wrong. So having been through the anguish of wanting to base but not knowing how I thought I would share with you how I base my ships. First things first and that is what size…
