• Weekly Waffle #28

No game night for this week’s weekly waffle so I’ve not had chance to lose another game of Guild Ball. But I have had chance to get some work done on my Butchers. There are quite a few examples of nice Butchers teams out there so fining inspiration for these was easy. I’ve stuck with standard colours that appear in the art work and unlike the Morticians these are colours that I feel quite happy painting so I’ve been finding it much more enjoyable to paint these. Because I have a couple of versions of Ox and Boiler it’s meant that I have nine models to paint this time which…

    Weekly Waffle #27

The highlight of this week’s weekly waffle gaming news was mine and Al’s second game of Guild Ball. It was still only a three player game on a two by two board but we had a much better idea of the rules and the general feel for the game. Again it was the Alchemists facing off against the Fishermen, and the Alchemists got a pasting. Alchemists kicked off and the Fishermen scored on the second activation of their return, Alchemist then scored following the Goal Kick and the Fishermen got another from that Goal Kick. We have decided that a two by two table is just too short so we…

Let’s start this week’s weekly waffle off with some gaming. Game night this week saw us have our first game of Guild Ball with the Alchemists against the Fishermen. Considering we were only using quick start set up of three models per team and a two foot square gaming area it took us ages. Lots of referring back to the rule book and querying things. But with each turn things got faster and we had a really good game. I was using the Alchemists and Al was using the Fishermen. Both have very different styles but they seemed to be very well balanced. We go to the stage where we…

    Alchemist’s Guild Painting Guide

I’ve got something a bit different for you here in the form of an Alchemist’s Guild Painting Guide. With these being such new models there aren’t any painted examples out there to get inspiration from. This is good in that anything that I do should be ok but bad in that I find deciding on a colour scheme one of the hardest things to do when starting a new project. Whilst there are no painted models out there, or none that I can find, there is quite a bit of artwork that shows the Alchemist’s Guild with a mainly green colour scheme to them. In particular the images on the…

It’s been a quite week on the gaming front for this week’s weekly waffle. As I said last week I’ve spent most of the week in Newcastle for work so didn’t get any gaming in at all. On the hobby front I did take some of the my Guild Ball minis aways with me and I’ve taken the time to clean up both my Butchers and my Brewers. So that should save me a bit of time when I get round to painting them. A nice surprise however was a parcel waiting for me when I got home yesterday. Not full of minis but full of dice, or to specific…

    Weekly Waffle #23

Ok then I’ve got a few updates for you on todays weekly waffle. Gaming this week was back to playing Zombiside. We had a slightly different line up of players this week and we even had a plan. Everything started off really well with us all working together and soon having all the items we needed to collect. All in the first large building we entered. So now all we needed to do was collect the three remaining objective markers and head for home. The only problem was that we already had the ‘A-bomb’ zombie on the table. Still not that big of a problem as a Molotov cocktail soon…

    Weekly Waffle #22

No gaming club for this week’s weekly waffle so I’ve spent the whole week just focusing on cracking on with Guild Ball. The bulk of my time this week has been spent working on the Fisherman’s Guild. The poses on these models make them harder to paint than the Alchemists and I’ve struggled to come up with a colour scheme that I’m happy with. The obvious choice was to go down the route of the studio painted models but I know I just couldn’t do that justice and would never be happy with what I ended up with. So I kept the idea of working with blue as the main…

    Holding models whilst painting

When I started painting I didn’t really understand the need not be putting your fingers all over your freshly painted miniatures. It was all about getting things painted as fast as I could so I could use them. But when I started taking a bit more care with my painting I started to notice marks on the minis caused by the way I was handling them. And that was when I stared to look at different way to get around this issue. There are loads of different things you can use but this is what I find myself doing when holding models whilst painting. I get bags of corks ether…

    Weekly Waffle #21

I had my first game of Zombiside on Tuesday for this week’s weekly waffle and have to say that I really enjoyed it, even if my so called mates left me to be eaten alive after rushing to their aid. For such a simple concept the game play is fantastic and it really draws you in. If you’ve not played it and you get the chance I would highly recommend it. It’s easy to pick up, engaging and most of all fun. I had a really good night playing it and will certainly be playing again. On the hobby front I’ve been concentrating on trying to get my Alchemist’s finished…
