It’s been an interesting week this week and I can say that for this weeks weekly waffle at least the mojo seems to have returned. But before I get onto that I’m going to start with a gaming update as that was how I rounded off the end of las week. We had a really good D&D session on Sunday were we all seemed to be back on track with a nice clear or not to murky goal along with nice simple time line. We managed some a couple of days of uneventful travel before reaching our first objective so things were looking good. But we should have known that when thing are going well what is really happening is you getting deeper and deeper into a world of pain, you just haven’t realised it yet. So delving head long into a dungeon we began our quest and things were still going well. Then we ran into a bit of bother. We had been told that character of good standing who is part of the organisation we were working for was missing, but we found out he wasn’t missing he was dead, and if he was dead then it was something nasty that had killed him. That nasty turned out to be some Ghouls but they were putting out a lot of damage. Now something really uncharacteristic for our party happened at this point, we actually all started working together to the same plan. Isolate the baddies and take them down one at a time. This approach worked quite well just one or two little hic ups, but the key was we were working together and working well. It took a bit of time but we ended up taking everything down and we were all still in one piece. A binged up but still in one piece.
The only way out of the chamber we found ourselves in was to solve a riddle to get through a sealed door, which we did with some impressive team work. Two more doors and we were on a roll, but it was getting a bit late so were expecting thing to wrap up for the night, and they did. But not before we encountered a Drow war band who appeared to be frozen in mid stride heading straight towards us. Then the our lovely DM described a Beholder drifting down from the roof of the cavern, and that’s where things ended. So we have all had a bit of a kicking, used up a lot of spell slots and now we have to face a beholder, and if we get past that and horde of Drow which could be interesting.
On the hobby front I have to say that I lied to you a few weeks again when is said I never wanted to paint gold trim again because I’ve been doing lots of gold trim again this week. Although I have to say I thought that it would be a much smaller job than it actually turned out to be. I happened to accidentally stumble across the new Adeptus Titanicus Acastus Knights Porphyrion and I don’t know how it happened but all of sudden they were in my basket and I’d ordered them. So when they landed this week I got straight on the case and started on them. The build was straight forward but I have to say that it’s the first time I can ever remember seeing a genuine error with as set of GW instructions. It was just where it told you to try and stick a part from one leg onto the other leg. Lockley the part wouldn’t actually fit so it didn’t pose a problem so it might be worth keeping those instructions as a keep sack.
Once they were built it was time for paint and I’ve done these in a different colour to the original knights I painted. Or what I should say is I’ve painted these guys in the way I intended to paint the original knights but this time I didn’t mess up the process. I really wanted a deeper purple that I achieved last time and I’m really happy with how this version turned out. Although it may mean that I need to repaint, or more accurately get some new knight and paint them this way. I’ve kept the same idea of using purple and red, using the red as the common element between the knights and titans, which I think works well.
I’ve also gotten the bug of adding water slide transfers, as you can see on the knights, so I’ve taken another test piece and added a large one to that. I had used a spare Reaver carapace to do some test work with a stencil which I ended up lacquering without cleaning up some bits of fluff that had settled on it. So the pictures don’t look too good but if you ignore the paint work I think the transfer looks good. This has been done using the Vallejo Decal Fix and Decal Medium which I think works really well. The medium works to soften up the transfer and then by using a cotton bud, once it’s softened, to get any wrinkles and creases out so it looks nice and flat.
I’ve also added a few transfers to what I think are called ‘tilt shields’ for the titans. These fit on the ends of the larger shoulder pads and I think they are basically there to show heraldry. I’m not sure that the silver background works well but the transfers work well.
That’s it for this week and I’m pegging this one as successful week. But the problem is that now that I’ve set the standard I’m not sure what I’m going to be able to do next week. I think this week was around something new and shiny so I’ve been really motivated. Now going back to trying to get the big boy that motivation might not just a high but I’m going to try and keep things rolling along. Especially with the talk of Aeronotica on the horizon I’ve set myself a goal that I’m not going to pick it up until I’ve finished the big boy. That’s it for today so I hope you all have a great hobby week and I hope to catch up with you all again next week.
