Weekly Waffle #184

I’ve got something of a mixed bag for you this week with a bit of a gaming update and few different hobby related updates. Although I don’t think I have as many pictures for you this week. And I’ve decided to do them in chronological order just because I haven’t done that for a while.

So first up we have a hobby update but not just any hobby update this hobby update was a group event. As a club we have just got a whole bunch of 40K terrain that will work really well with the recently released Necromunda and the soon to be released 40K Kill Team, which I think goes on pre-order to day. Anyway a few of us had a get together to start the process of getting everything clipped off the sprus and cleaned up. Not having done any major projects for a while I had forgotten how long this actually takes. I think I drew the easy straw and ended up with the storage tanks so I managed to get seven of these cleaned up and built before I had to run away. Unfortunately I had a previous family engagement I couldn’t get out of. Or be more precise I’d agreed to go for a couple of pints with my Dad. The rest of the lads carried on after I had left and managed to get everything clipped out and cleaned. So next step will be to start painting but we haven’t got a date pencilled in for that yet.

Next up I have a test model that has come completely out of left field. A friend of a friend has been asking me to paint up some Deathwing for him but I’ve resisted to date as I don’t want to take on any commissions. Part of that is down to the fact that I don’t think I’m that good a painter and the other is that I paint for fun so once I’m not enjoying something I can just leave it. But you can’t do that if it’s for someone else. Anyway friend number one has tipped the balance as he is head distiller and has promised me a bottle of a new spiced rum he is working one as soon as it’s available so how could I turn that down. Although Al and Pete also want one now so that may turn into a lot of painting. So before he turns up with the models he wants me to paint I thought I would have a bit of play with a marine from I had laying around. Now before anyone gets on their high horse I know that the Deathwing is all Terminator but I didn’t have a spare terminator laying around. I’m reasonably happy with how it turned out although I think would use a little bit less white but it gives me a good starting point.

Thursday night saw us continuing our DnD adventure with the party eventually making it to Adun which I was hoping would bring my quest to an end. Adun is the largest city we have been to yet and it’s opening up some interesting options to us. Corey has invested some of his coin buying a new shield and Pete has found a smith who can work Umrilium which is a magical metal. This means he can upgrade his staff to improve his spell casting which could be useful going forward. The monastery is still a days travel away so I’ve not quite finished and that will have to wait until next time. What we have done though is agree to do a job for the hunters guild which has means we all now have a fealty mark from the guild. I wasn’t too keen on this but as we are treated with suspicion everywhere we go as we don’t currently have any markings. This way we are not tied to any single house and hunters will travel so it could work in our favour. We will just have to see.

Finally for this week, although to be fair I’ve been doing little bits all week, we have Stranger JD. I’ve started to add some more detail to the servo harness although I’m still working on the yellow at the same time, which is sending me a bit crazy. So to try and stop myself going to mad I’ve also started to block in some of the colours on the main body. I find it really encouraging when I get colour on large areas as it makes me think I’m making progress. Which is a bit of con as I know there is still a massive amount of work to do but I’m moving in the right direction.

That’s it for this week and all in all I think it’s been rather productive. Plans for next week are to keep plodding along with JD and hopefully make a start on some bits and pieces for the Death Wing project. I’ve got an idea for some bases that could be really nice if I can pull it off, or it could be a completely beyond my ability to do it but I’m going to try anyway. It’s the last day of the Tour tomorrow so I will watching xxx ride to victory with a few beers and I’ve even booked Monday off work so I don’t have to worry about a hangover. Until next week enjoy your hobby time and I’ll catch up with you all later.
