Where to start this week. I’ll think I’ll kick things off with a bit of look into the future and since the debacle of not being able to book a room at the venue for Adepticon next year I’ve been keeping an eye on the site, checking every day, waiting for the registration to open. The dates are now up with the preview due to be live on Friday the 3rd of November and booking going live on Friday 17th of November. So these dates are now in calendar with numerous reminders set so I don’t miss anything. I’ll need to do some working out when the timings come up for the bookings to go live as I’ve volunteered to book our group and with the time difference I need to know if I’m staying up late on the Thursday or Friday night. Can’t afford to get that one wrong or I’ll get lynched.
My plan is to do another series or articles imaginatively called ‘Road to Adepticon’ once the tickets are secured just doing a periodic build up to the event. Especially have been once so I’ve got some idea of what to expect this time round. It will also focus me as to what minis I’ll be taking with me and in particular what I’m going to use an entry for the Crystal Brush.
So with that look in to the not too distant future out of the way what have I been up to this week? I’ve put the ships to one side for a bit and I’ve made a start on some Infinity miniatures. Even though I’m only looking at eight miniatures it’s been a slow process. Whilst the minis are very nice I find that they are a pain to clean up and put together. It being spoiled with so many companies now using resin or plastic which is much easier to work with. Going back to working with metal just seems to add so much to the prep time. I understand that at the end of the day it all comes down to cost and with the minis being so good I wouldn’t want them to sacrifice this, but it would be nice if they could one day move away from metal. But we have what we have and in this case it a the Yu Jing starter box along with an Imperial Agent Crane Rank that came with Angel Painting guide, and last but by no means least Sun Tze. The starter pack is going to from the base of a new list and the other two are just such nice models that I couldn’t resist.
I’ve been using the Angel book as a guide but have to admit that it’s so far above what I’m capable of I find it hard just following the steps. He makes I sound so easy but I’m keen to give it a go and stretch myself. And believe me I’m being stretched. My plan has been to work on the armour sections first and to do them as a group, which will hopefully give them all the same feel.
One thing I haven’t worked out yet is how to base them. I’m toying with the idea of going with rocky bases that I think will give a nice contrast between the high tech of their armour as opposed to putting them on space ship type bases. But another part of me thinks they would look good on technical bases as long as I go with dark colours to make the armour stand out. I think what I might do is try and paint up each type of base and then see which I think will work best but I’m in no rush so I will see how things pan out.
In other news it looks there is a future for Dystopian Wars after all. Warcradle have picked up the IP for the game and are planning to run with it going forward. There isn’t a great deal of information about just what this means yet but I for one am happy that a future for the game looks possible. There has been some grumbling on the net about the fact that Warcradle won’t be taking on any of the responsibility of the Kickstarter but that’s was never going to happen. It’s just not the way things work when a company goes into administration. What I’d really like to see now is for everyone to get behind Warcradle in supporting Dystopian Wars and the other IP’s they have picked up so that they can flourish.
And I think that just about rounds things out for this week. I’m going to plod on with the Yu Jing for the rest of the week. I hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll catch up with all again next week.
