Weekly Waffle #298
17th September 2022
Before I get started with this weeks update I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge just what a momentous couple of weeks it’s been here in the UK. Regardless of whether you are a monarchist or not, and I’ve spent most of my adult life in the Armed Forces and Civil Service so consider myself in the monarchist camp, the Queen has been a marvellous head of state. So I would simply like to thank her for her service, in good times and in bad. May she now rest in peace with her beloved Philip.
As for me I’m back refreshed and ready to go from my mini break to York, although I have to say I have eaten far to much in some very nice restaurants. If any of you are planning a trip to York in the not to distant future I can give you what I consider to be some very good recommendations. One of them is even a Jazz club next door to a beer shop and just to top it off they are both across the road from Games Workshop. Although because I was with the boss I resisted the urge to up any more toys whilst I was there. I have also been doing quite a bit of work to try and organise all of my existing images. It’s a slow process but I am getting there and it has the added bonus that once they are sorted I can use the structure to automatically produce galleries with a new gallery plugin I’ve been playing around with. This should then let me share the images I have much more easily, but I need to get them sorted first so one job at a time.
Now I have still officially been on holiday this week so paradoxically I’ve not had a great deal of hobby time, but I really didn’t want to skip two updates so this week will be more of a waffle than a hobby packed bonanza. Having said that I have got a few updates for you starting with a little bit of Carnivale and a few new releases, two of which just happen to be for the Guild. The first is a box set of Shiphands which is made up of a Whaler, which is a very nice model and reminds me a lot of the Kraken mini for the Fishermen in Guildball. Then there is a Smuggler and a Dog Keeper along with three hounds. All of them are really nice models and I’m really interested to see how the hounds will fit into the game.
The second Guild release is Baroni and Pilferers which look very much like it will be an extension to the Princes Court starter box. Baroni in particular is a very nice model that I am very much looking forward to painting.
In both cases I haven’t looked at any of the stats so have no idea how they will play. But that’s what happens when the shiny new syndrome kicks in and you buy minis with no idea how you are going to use them. My only potential saving grace here is that I will be able to start wok on them soon because my existing Guild models are making steady progress. Although I will have to make sure I have enough of the cobble bases for them, which might be a challenge. Reminder to self to order some more just in case.
Game night was back on again this week and we had a good turn out. No games for me but I did watch a couple of good games of Kill Team and Warcry running side by side. Anna was introducing Tony to Warcry with a clash between Corvus Cabal and The Unmade. I don’t know the rules but I do know that instead of going with an objective/ scenario game they just went for a straight out fight. Which ended up going right down to the wire with only two models left on the table battling it out for survival and victory. In the end dice gods were on the side of The Unmade giving Tony the victory in his fist game.
On the Kill Team table it was Corey with is Word Bearers against Pete with is Dark Elder, sorry Drukhari, Wyches. After the first round of shooting I thought this was going to be a very one sided game in favour of the Word Bearers. But once the Wyches got into close combat things started to even out. The Wyches have a very characterful dodge type of save which kept them in the fight. I’m going to make this one something of a cliff hanger as I left before the game ended so you will need to pop back next week to find out which side prevailed.
I haven’t made any progress with the Skitarii but at the same time I haven’t given up on them. I’ve just been busy enjoying some time off work and doing other things, mainly eating and drinking, but I should be back into a more normal routine next week. So until then I hope you all have a good week and hope see you all again next Saturday.
