Weekly Waffle

Weekly Waffle #147

So what have I got for you this weeks weekly waffle? The doldrums haven’t quite cleared yet but there are some signs of change on the horizon. I’ve spent the first part of the week looking at the catalogue of events and seminars for Adepticon and trying not to simply put myself down for everything. There are lots of seminars that I really want to go to but I’m not sure how practical that will be and I’ve not even looked at the games yet. This could be a very tough week trying to get the list down to something that is actually manageable. I’ll also need to spend some time making sure the rest of the crew have come up with a list of what they want me to book for them when the booking goes live next week. After the trauma I had last time, with that I though was one of the most convoluted and unfriendly booking systems I’ve ever used, I’ve got a plan for booking this year. It might not work but it makes me feel better to think that I at least have a plan.

On a more positive note my first care package has arrived this week with a few goodies to help me get the Grot shed build underway. First up we have the Corrugator, which I’m being perfectly honest will you I was really disappointed in when I first opened it. I was expecting something with a bit more oomph to it. However after having a play with it I’ve changed my mind and I’m really glad I ordered it.

I’ve only had a quick play with it but the test piece turned out quite nice, despite the fact that that I didn’t cut the tin sheet square so the end result is a bit wonky. My plan is to make the actual sheets in different sizes to give the impression that things have been scavenged from all over the place. I will try and reinforce this feel when it comes to the painting by painting them up in different colours and giving different weathering effects in different areas. All makes sense in my head but only time will tell if it actually works.

The next item was a mould for making different types of bolts and rivets. The moulds will allow me to make four different types of fasteners, bolts, screw heads, rounded rivets and a more pointy stud type of rivet. Each type has a number of different sizes. I’ve used Miliput for my first round of testing which you can see in the picture below but at the time of writing I’m still waiting for it to fully dry so you’ll have to wait until next week to see how they turn out. My initial thoughts are that it will be the bolts that get the most use but I’ll keep an open mind about how I can make use of the other. The rounded rivets may be good for fixing the tin roof to the I beam frame of the shed.

I’ve also spent some time looking through the events for Adepticon next year and whilst here is plenty going on to keep me busy, especially if I manage to book all the things I’d like too, I can’t help thinking the list seems to be a lot shorter than last time I went. I’m not sure if what is out at the moment is the final list but I seem to remember there being a lot more going on last time we were there. One thing I am really disappointed about is the lack of anything related to Wild West Exodus on the list. We has some cracking games last time but nothing this year. I know it has changed hands but I would have thought there would be some way to arrange something, even if it was just demo games. Especially considering the game originated in the US and from the forums still has a big following. Any way I may still take some minis with me as there me be a chance to pick up or arrange some sort of drop in game.

I’m going to call it a day there for this week. Hope you all have a good weekend and I’ll catch you all again next weekend with some pictures of my new bolts.
