• Confederate – Corporal Franklyn (Sidekick) – Painting Guide

Corporal Franklyn is in the concept art book so that’s what I used as reference for my paint scheme. Having already adopted the same approach for Captain Williams, my thinking being that it becomes something of a standard for anyone who is using a light support type weapon. The first step was to prime the model and I did this using Vallejo Black Surface Primer (74.602) for a first coat. I then went back over the model using Vallejo Grey Surface Primer (74.601) at about a forty five degree angle to start to build up some shadow and highlight. Clothing: Trousers were done with Vallejo Basic Grey (71.097) and then…

  • Weekly Waffle #87

Well were to start with this weeks weekly waffle. Didn’t make it to games night this week because of some car trouble. Came out to the car on Saturday and someone had vandalised the bonnet with spray paint but because I had other things on over the weekend I couldn’t do anything about it until Tuesday. Spent most of the day using T-Cut to try and polish it out which I have to say worked really well. Then when it came to set off for Al’s the battery on the car was dead, so I just gave up.  The spray paint incident has given me a bit of something to…

  • WarColours Paint Brush Review

My current paint brushes had got to that stage where the tips are starting to go and were in need of replacing but the dilemma was what to replace them with. For the last 18 months or so I’ve been using some Games and Gears brushes and they have been very nice. But when it came to replacing them they are only available as a full set at around £30 for six brushes but I only really needed to replace four of them so I was a bit hesitant and decided to have a bit of look around to see what else was available. There were the obvious choses of…

  • Weekly Waffle #86

Well, game night for this weeks weekly waffle actually turned into drink tea and talk about painting night although I have lined up a game of Wild West Exodus with Al for next week. Which will probably end in a humiliating defeat but it’s a chance to give my confederates a run out. One of the highlights of the week for me was trip down to Warhammer World with Al on Wednesday. We used to make the trip a couple of times a year when we were playing 40K but we reckon it’s been three or four years since we were last there. Al lots changed in that time. You…

  • Warhammer World Road Trip

So as I mentioned in last week’s weekly waffle I’ve had a bit of road trip to warhammer world today and thought I would do a quick update with a bit of a photo dump. I’ll save most of the details so I have something for the weekend but in the mean time I would just say that it was a really good trip. A big thanks to Al for driving, even though he’s now got me hooked on doing a Sylvaneth force for Age of Sigmar.  Anyway I’ll leave it there for now other than to apologise about the quality of some of the images. But in my defence…

  • Confederate – Captain Williams (Sidekick) – Painting Guide

I didn’t have any images to work with for Captain Williams as he’s not in the concept art book and I haven’t seen any painted images of him on the net. However Corporal Franklyn is in the concept art book and he has a similar type of weapon so I thought I would go with same colour scheme. My thinking being that it becomes something of a standard for anyone who is using a light support type weapon. The first step was to prime the model and I did this using Vallejo Black Surface Primer (74.602) for a first coat. I then went back over the model using Vallejo Grey…

  • Weekly Waffle #85

So having missed games night last week Al was poorly this week so no game again for the weekly waffle. I have spent some more time reading through the RECON rules and watching a few games on YouTube so I think I’m beginning to get to grips with it. But none of this has in anyway made me want to even think about painting the minis. Although I have seen some new civilians from Spector that look like they would work really well for RECON but I digress. On the hobby front this has been something of a Frostgrave week. I picked a load of miniatures when I was at…

    Gamers Grass Review

I’ve been using the grass tufts form the guys at gamers grass for some time so when it was time to place another order I thought it was good chance to do a bit of product review. So first things first this is not some sort of sponsored review, I have no affiliation with the company and they’ve not sent me anything to review. It’s just what I like to use. I think I first became aware of them after reading an article in ‘Figure Painter’ magazine and thought I’d give them a go when I was looking for something to use on my Guild Ball Bases. That fist order…

  • Weekly Waffle #84

Game night for this weeks weekly waffle was going to be more RECON. We’ve decided to give it a few more goes to see if we can get to grips with it. To help Al out I’ve spent a week looking through the rules and going back over our previous games to see what makes sense and what doesn’t. Unfortunately I’ve had something of a rubbish week this week and haven’t been sleeping well, so when I get home from work late and sat down with a brew to chill out before heading to Al’s disaster struck. I simply fell asleep and didn’t wake up until the early hours having…

  • Confederate – Stonewall Jackson (Boss) – Painting Guide

Stonewall Jackson is one of the Bosses of the Confederate Rebellion and like most of the colour schemes of late the inspiration for this one came from the Concept Art book. I there he is shown in a grey uniform, which to my limited historical knowledge is in keeping with the Confederate forces. The first step was to prime the model and I did this using Vallejo Black Surface Primer (74.602) for a first coat. I then went back over the model using Vallejo Grey Surface Primer (74.601) at about a forty five degree angle to start to build up some shadow and highlight. Clothing: Once the primer was fully…
