Weekly Waffle #160
Something of a mixed week this week for the weekly waffle with a few things getting in the way of hobby time. First of these is something that I think is worth sharing but has nothing really to do with hobby time. That’s been the release of Altered Carbon on Netflix I’ve been a fan of Richard Morgan for some time now so I was a bit sceptical about how this would turn out. But I’m glad to say that whilst they have played around with a few key elements in relation to the book they have done a really good job of staying true to the feel of the…
The Road to Adepticon 2018 #2
It’s been a while since I did the last update so I thought it was time I brought you up to date on where we are with this year’s trip. I covered off the fact that we had the hotel booked event tickets secured in the last update. Since then Darren has been a star and booked the flights so we will be flying out on Monday the 19th so we can have a couple of days in Chicago ahead of the event. And then flying home on 26th so that we get to enjoy everything Adepticon has to offer this year. Unlike last time we went in order for…
The Road to Adepticon 2018 #1
It’s probably a bit late to be starting this as I’ve mentioned a few times in the Weekly Waffle that a few of us are going to be returning to the good old US of A next year for Adepticon (2018). We were there are a couple of years ago for the 2016 even and really enjoyed ourselves. Now that we’ve had time to recover and save up a few pennies we are on our way back. Like last time my plan is to do a few articles that cover off some of the key milestones, that’s a bit of work creeping in, about our planning for next year’s trip.…
Weekly Waffle #148
I’m going to start off this week’s weekly waffle with a controversial subject that is nothing to do with gaming. It’s to do with a famous drink that I don’t particularly like. But everyone says you have to try it in Ireland because that’s where it’s from and it tastes much better. So having spent this week in Belfast I’ve made the trip to the Crow and had a pint of the black stuff but here’s where I get really controversial. I wasn’t impressed. Don’t get me wrong there was nothing wrong with it but it was just uninspiring, nothing special. What they did have however was a rather fantastic…
Derby World Wargames 2016
Last Saturday (1st October) saw me visiting my first proper wargame show in the UK at Derby World Wargames. Ok I’ve been to Games Day before but I’m not counting that because whilst it’s a big event it’s only one company. Al had arranged to go down to Derby for the Derby World Wargames show at Castle Donington and I tagged along with him. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but having had a look at the vendor list before setting off there were a couple of things that had already perked my interest. First things first I’d like to say a big thank you to Dan for driving…
Weekly Waffle #71
In some wired Doctor Who theme this week’s weekly waffle actually starts before last week’s update was posted with the Vengeance 2016 Guild Ball event. As I’ve been going on about it for the last few weeks I’m sure you are all aware of it but as quick re-cap it was a 120 person event organised by Guild Ball Informer. To say that I was nervous would be a bit understatement but it turned out to be a really good event. If you were following along on twitter last week you already know how well things went for me, but for those who don’t know it went something like this.…

The Road to Adepticon #3
So another Adepticon update for you this week. With the accommodation and tickets already sorted the only thing we needed to finalise was the flights. Now I have to be honest here I didn’t put myself forward to sort this out but Darren did, and after much toing and froing trying to keep us all happy the flights are now booked. It’s really weird but it hasn’t felt quite real until now. I suppose there’s nothing like handing over a wedge of cash to make things feel real. Although it was all electronic so it was a metaphorical wedge of cash. As well as the flights being booked I’ve also…
The Road to Adepticon #2
Well it’s been a while since I did my first update about going to Adepticon next year but there’s not been much to report since then. Until now that is. Tickets (or badges) went on sale this morning at two o’clock and I was waiting armed with a list of events and seminars we wanted to attend along with my credit card to try and book everything. Two hours later and much frustration we now have tickets and some of the events we wanted to attend. The whole process was an exercise in frustration not helped with it being two in the morning and me be really tiered by then.…
The Road to AdeptiCon #1
So a couple of months ago I was out for a beer with my mate Al and he asked me if I fancied going to Adepticon next year (2016). He’d been to Gen Con with another fried last year and they’d both decided to go to Adepticon for their next gaming trip. I’d declined the offer to go to Gen Con with them because from all the footage I’d seen from previous years it seemed like it would be just to manic to really enjoy. And from what they said when they go back that certainly seemed to be the case. However everything I’ve heard about Adepticon has lead me…
