Weekly Waffle #281

Another week and the ball is still rolling in the right direction, the mojo is still there and I’m enjoying my hobby time. Granted I’m not churning out a mass of miniatures but I’m enjoying doing something a little bit different and I’m really happy with what I’m producing. I think the key for me at the moment is that I’m content when things don’t turn our quite how I would like them to. By that I mean that in each of the Nuts Planet minis I’ve finished to date there are things with each of them that I know could be better. But rather than fixating on them and ruining the rest of the mini trying to fix them I have done what I can to resolve them but then just decided to live with them. The key for me though is that I’ve tried to understand why something didn’t work the way I thought it would and then do it differently on the next model. Some things have gone wrong on every one of them, because I haven’t figured out how to solve the problem. However, some of the changes have worked which to me is the definition on of progress and it’s what helps to keep the mojo flowing.

This week I’ve started on the next of my Nuts Planet 1/35 scale Tiger series minis in the form of ‘Clever Hunter’. It’s quite a subtle mini and could fit into any number of genres with the only military style features being a belt with some webbing type pouches on it and an old leather holster. Other than that it it’s a civilian carrying a rucksack. I again took my inspiration from the Nuts Planet painted version but I have digressed a bit more with this chap. I’ve gone with a military surplus / sporting goods store feel for him. Keeping it quite neutral with bright colours but the colours certainly aren’t military, with the exception of the green trousers. I’ve used the same style of base as I did for Devastator Victor and think both models site quite well alongside each other.

I’ve really enjoyed working on this and I’m looking forward to working on the rest of it. Whilst it’s been a joy to work on, and I know it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s also been a really good change of pace which has kept my interest up in painting. Keeping the motivation going can be challenge for all of us and if your anything like me you start the year full of good intentions they can soon fade away. Mixing things up a bit can help keep things ticking along nicely and for me this is filling that role.

That’s it for this week. The plan for next week is to make a start on the last of the Nuts Planet minis which is ‘Call sign goshawk’ and is the one I’ve had the most trepidation over painting. There are a lot of smooth surfaces on it so I’m really not sure how it will turn out. But in keeping with this year’s ethos of just giving it a go that’s exactly what I’m going to be doing. So until next week, keep safe, look after each other and enjoy whatever hobby time you can squeeze in.
