Weekly Waffle #421 – The Dwarf Who Brought a Cannon to a Ball Game

The Mojo

I’ve had a really good week, mainly because I haven’t been in work this week but I’ve also managed to get quite a bit of hobby time in. The mojo has been high I’m still enjoying myself.

Monument Hobby has released its version of contrast paints this week and I’m toying with the idea of trying a couple of them but I’ve not pulled the trigger on that yet. But watch this space because I’m a sucker for anything new and shiny that I think will make me a better painter.

But I do want to share something that I have discovered this week that I think has the potential to save me a tone of time going forward. It’s’ a web page called ai-minipater and I think this could be a game changer If you are anything like me deciding on a colour scheme is often the longest part of any project. This site lets upload an unpainted image of a mini, vehicle or squad. You then give it some instructions and it gives you a painted image.

It is dependent on the quality of your prompts but I really like how well it seems to work. I have done a bit of review here to give you a better feel for it. I’ve only been playing with it for a week but so far I’m liking what I’m seeing. Just look at these images to get an idea of what it can do.

On The Work Bench

On the work bench I’ve been working on the dwarves again and I’m nearly at the end of the roster. This week has been all about Barik Farblast. From a painting perspective it’s been a little bit more of a rinse and repeat exercise because I want him to fit in with the rest of the team. It would be a bit odd now to try and go left field with a completely new colour scheme.

But paint the blast from his ball cannon has been a little bit different. I did something like this a long time ago for my Ork Storm Boys and it’s been nice to have something different to work on. I’ve gone with the brighter colours of the explosion in the centre of the blast and then things get darker you work outwards into the smoky clouds.

I like how it’s turned out but what do you guys think?
