Adepticon update #1

Adepticon update #1

So first update of the week for you. We flew into Chicago on Monday evening and got through immigration in record time. For us that is less than two hours. Then a simple trip on the blue line downtown from the airport. A ten minute walk and we were at the airport so all was good. The only issue in all of this was once again on a foreign trip I couldn’t get my phone to connect to a network despite telling my carrier where I was going. And paying for the pleasure of connecting in the US.

We normally go to giordano’s pizza on the first night but had different plans for this trip. So instead we went to Pallor pizza for a New York style pizza. Pete had been sent a video of someone crying because it was so good. It turned out it was literally round the corner from our hotel. I have to say it was very good pizza and along with a couple of beers made for a good first night.

Tuesday started with me getting my phone working and then we went up to Wriggle Field. Not a lot to actually see but it was something we wanted to tick off our list of places to visit. A beer in Murphy’s before heading back down town for some sightseeing.

Visited the Picasso and Flamingo sculptures before looking for a bar. We ended up at the Berghoff bar which as the first bar to get a liquor licence in the city following prohibition. But we had no idea until we got talking to an older guy at the bar. Head been drinking there for forty years and gave us all the history. Had a really good afternoon.

In the evening we went to Pequod’s Pizza for our deep pan fix. We had been told by several people it’s the best pizza in Chicago and we weren’t disappointed. It was certainly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had and the caramelised crust was to die for. A few more beers rounded off the day nicely.

Wednesday morning was a little more sightseeing before travelling to Schaumburg and our second hotel for the trip. As things stand now we are checked in and the next job will be to go through registration, pick up swag bags and then go to the GW preview event.

This is the worst bit of the whole trip for me waiting in the queue to get our tickets. But once it’s done it’s all good from there.

I’ll try and get more updates done each day with a little update on how things are going.
