Doldrums – a state of inactivity, listlessness or stagnation. Now how’s that for an opening line in a weekly waffle. But I’ve decided it just about sums up my hobby mojo at the moment. I’ve not lost my love or my desire to hobby it’s just that I can’t seem to get myself moving to make things happen. I’ve got a few projects I can and should be working but when I sit at my desk to try and crack on with things I just can’t get started. I normally like to listen to an audio book when I’m painting and one of things may be that I’ve nothing to listen to at the moment, or more accurately I don’t want to start a new one just yet as the third part of The Stormlight Archive is due out on the 16th and I’ve already got it on pre-order so I’m hoping if I can’t get myself going before then it will do the trick. And if you fancy a good read I can certainly recommend them. Although start of the first book ‘The Way of the King’ is a bit slow so stick with it if you do give it a go.
On a positive note I’ve worked or at least I think I have worked out how I’m going to progress a few key areas of the build and I’ve got some orders in so it’s now just waiting for the post man to arrive. One of the key bits that I’m waiting for is a corrugator and how cool does that sound. But to be fair it’s really nothing more than a roller but when used with some metal foil it is going to provide the corrugated sheets for the side of the shed. The reason I decided to go down this route was twofold. First of all it should actually work out as cheaper option than picking up sheets of corrugated plastic card. But the main reason is that I think it will be easier to make a more realistic job by being able to size and weather the sheets individually to give it an overall feel of a very slap shod and knocked together build.
The other thing that I’ve got on order is a mould to allow me to make rivets and nuts from miliput to add a bit more detail to things. Again this is something of a money saver as buying different nuts and bolts for models can get a bit expensive. This way I think they will pay for themselves on this build and then they are there for any other projects I may come up with in the future. And you can never have too many bits of gubbins laying around.
On a more positive and upbeat note the catalogue preview for Adepticon has now gone live. I’d like to say that I was up and waiting to check it out at 02:00 this morning but that just wasn’t the case. But I did check it out this morning, once I’d made myself a brew. I can’t really say much about it yet as I’ve only had a skim through it but will have a proper look over the weekend and start to make a list of things I want to attend. My main aim is to try and get in a good number of classes so that I start to try out new things but I’m also going to make sure a get a few games in as well. What this does mean though is that I’ll be getting the other guys to put their lists together so that I’m all prepared for when the booking goes live. And that will mean that I will need to be up at 02:00 to make sure I get us some tickets. Don’t know where I would be able to hide if I mess that up.
Anyway that’s it for this barren week in the hobby world. With a fair wind I’ll have some updates on the Adepticon build for you next week and who knows I may even pick up a paint brush. Have a good weekend and I hope to catch you all again next week.
