This week I’ve been in deepest darkest Wales trying to avoid being eaten by dragons so I’ve not had any time to get any fresh hobby in so I’ve gone with another retrospective edition of the Waffle. I had someone asking this week if I had considered selling any of my Orks as they haven’t seen the light of day in quite some time. But I do still love them so there is no way I am going to part with them but it did give me a good excuse to share a few more of the them with you.
Particularly I wanted to share some of my Warboss’s who over the years have been demoted to Nobs as new bosses have come along. Ironically the first boss in this list is actually the model for undoubtedly the most famous Ork ever, the mighty prophet of the Waaagh! Capable of rousing entire planetary populations of Orks into a frenzy. Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. I picked this model mainly because it was the biggest model I could get at the time and obviously the biggest ork is always the boss.
Now whilst Gaz is a nice model he’s not really unique so I got more and more into the hobby I decided that I needed something a bit different. If you follow the WYSIWYG rule Gaz has some restrictions as to how you can use him mainly due to his mega armour. With my boys moving down the route of being fast and red he wasn’t really the boss I was looking for so it was time for a change. I needed something that was still big enough to be a boss but that wasn’t encumbered with Mega armour so it was time for a conversion. In this case it was the body of an ogryn with as simple head and arm swap that I thought looked really nice at the time and is still of my favourite kit bash models.
Orgryn number one was my warboss for some time but as my hobby skills improved and the desire to get something even bigger kept niggling away I eventually succumbed to the idea of replacing him. SO he has now been demoted back to being a nob. At the time I was playing if you wanted to use a model at a GW event it had to be one of their models and there wasn’t a grate deal of options elsewhere when I was doing this one. Having used one ogryn and liking the results I decided to go a bit silly and picked up a Forge World Chaos ogryn as the base model. It’s quite a bit larger than the pervious boss but it did require quite a bit of green stuff work to get it to look right. I used the same head as the previous boss to add some fluff to the army by simply saying the boss had been so successful that he had just grown into this monster.
Now there are couple of things that all warboss’s need no matter how successful they have been and the first of those is a nob with a Waaagh! Banner. This is just the out of the box banner boy but I think it is one of the nicest model GW have done so it has to have place along side my boss.
Now the very fact the he is a warboss means that he has to be biggest and meanest ork there is but there will always be some upstart looking to try and take over that top spot. So a trusted mob of body guards is always a good idea. Given the best kit available to keep them happy until they get a bit uppity and need bashing down a peg or two. To fill this role there really was only one chose and it meant a move away from GW to what I consider to be one of the best sources of ork models and conversion parts. A bunch of Juggernaut Mecha-Armoured nobs curtesy of Kromlech who make absolutely stunning models.
And that’s it for this week. I hope you liked that look back at some of my orks and with Al and Pete getting a few games of 8th edition in over the last few weeks I’m looking forward to this current phase of working ending and getting a few games in myself. Until then have a good weekend and I hop to see catch you all again next week.
