Wild West Exodus
Weekly Waffle #84
Game night for this weeks weekly waffle was going to be more RECON. We’ve decided to give it a few more goes to see if we can get to grips with it. To help Al out I’ve spent a week looking through the rules and going back over our previous games to see what makes sense and what doesn’t. Unfortunately I’ve had something of a rubbish week this week and haven’t been sleeping well, so when I get home from work late and sat down with a brew to chill out before heading to Al’s disaster struck. I simply fell asleep and didn’t wake up until the early hours having…
Confederate – Stonewall Jackson (Boss) – Painting Guide
Stonewall Jackson is one of the Bosses of the Confederate Rebellion and like most of the colour schemes of late the inspiration for this one came from the Concept Art book. I there he is shown in a grey uniform, which to my limited historical knowledge is in keeping with the Confederate forces. The first step was to prime the model and I did this using Vallejo Black Surface Primer (74.602) for a first coat. I then went back over the model using Vallejo Grey Surface Primer (74.601) at about a forty five degree angle to start to build up some shadow and highlight. Clothing: Once the primer was fully…
Weekly Waffle #83
So for this week’s weekly waffle I’m going to venture into the divisive topic that is Age of Sigmar. Now just to start things off I have never played fantasy so when Games Workshop effectively finished off that world and changed things about it had no impact on me. In fact I found it quite interesting to just sit back and listen to some of the passionate debates that were taking place. The after one game night I noticed that Al had some Age of Sigmar models on his work desk, a bit of quizzing ensued and he just liked the models so picked some up to paint. And I…
Confederate – Buford Nash (Sidekick) – Painting Guide
I’ve used the artwork in the Concept Art book as my reference for painting Buford. In this artwork the predominant colour is brown so some strong contrasts and touch of metallic will be used to try and give things a bit of a pop whilst sticking with the overall scheme of the concept art. With that in mind the first step was to prime the model and I did this using Vallejo Black Surface Primer (74.602) for a first coat. I then went back over the model using Vallejo Grey Surface Primer (74.601) at about a forty five degree angle to start to build up some shadow and highlight.…
Weekly Waffle #82
I’ll start off this weeks weekly waffle with a bit of site admin now that I have figured out why the Ligtbox function isn’t working. I did an update mid with week some details but you should find things are working here. No game night this week so a little bit more time to try and get some work done on the civilians for MERCS ready to carry on our game next week. Try as I might though I’ve just not been able to summon up any enthusiasm for them at all. Frist up is the fact that they are made of this resin plastic highbred that is just horrible…

Weekly Waffle #81
Game night for this week’s weekly waffle say me trying to rekindle some of my passion for MERCS after the kick in the teeth delivered by the minis in the Kickstarter. Al has spent the week reading up on the rules, or at least that’s what he told us, I supplied some minis (not from the Kickstarter) and we set ourselves up for a bit of corporate espionage. I’d like to say that my passion has been rekindled but that’s just not the case. Don’t get me wrong, as a standalone game Recon is fun and I will certainly play it again, well I have too because we didn’t’ actually…
Weekly Waffle #80
So game night again for this weeks weekly waffle but we didn’t actually get a game in. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago the miniatures for MERCS 2.0 had finally arrived and this was my first chance to get a look at them. Now I have to say that I had been managing my expectations after seeing the civilian models in the Recon box. The Kickstarter was essentially two games with Recon being more of a board game and 2.0 being the next evolution of the existing game. After looking at the miniatures it appears that they have looked at the lowest quality they could get away with…
Weekly Waffle #79
No game night for this week’s weekly waffle#Site Title #Post Title #Site Title #Post Title and with no overnight trips for work I’ve actually managed to crack on with a few different hobby projects this week. The plan of having a few different things on the go at the same time seems to have paid off this week. To start with I’ve been working on some terrain pieces for Guild Ball. Al picked these up from Solid Ground Studios and I volunteered to paint them up a few weeks ago. I cleaned them up and primed them straight away and then they sat there waiting for something to happen, mainly because I…
Weekly Waffle #78
So I thought for this weeks weekly waffle I would have a truly British introspective on a subject that is really close to our hearts and how it impacts on our hobby. Yes you guessed it, it’s the weather. Over the last couple of weeks we have had some decidedly un-summer like weather and I think this has had a big impact on my motivation to paint. It’s frankly been a little bit depressing. So I’ve been sitting down to get some painting done, in this case an Italian fleet from sunny Italy whilst it’s cold and rainy outside. And I’ve ended up just sitting there thinking that I just…
