Weekly Waffle #378 – Regulator.

17th May 2025

For this week’s Weekly Waffle I have decided to switch things up a little bit and paint something a little bit different. All part of trying to keep my mojo up and improve my painting. I have had a look back at some previous projects and decided to step back into the world of Wild West Exodus. Not that I have any intention at the moment of playing any games. It’s just that they have some nice miniatures that I think will be nice to paint.

So I’ve picked up the Regulator Posse which consists of seven miniatures. They can fit in with three factions. The Lawmen, which would work with some of my existing miniatures. The Outlaws and the Warrior nation. I can see how they would work with the Lawmen in there earlier phase before moving to the Outlaws but I don’t have the background that supports their role in the Warrior Nation. But that doesn’t really matter for now. Although it’s something I’ll have to look into.

I’ve not gone all in trying to paint the whole box in one but decided to take my time and just fit them in amongst other thins. So to start off simple I went with Jake Williamson as my starter. Quite a simple pose and the colours on the box art, which I’m going to use as my guide.

I had quite high hopes for this guy but the whole painting process turned out to be a real challenge. It’s been one of those projects where nothing seemed to work the way I wanted it to. Highlighting the browns took me an age and I’m still not really happy with the end result. It’s not that it’s bad but more that it’s not what I wanted it to look like. I just couldn’t seem to get the right colour mix to work in the way I wanted it to.

The same issue seemed to follow me around every step of the mini. After the brown the skin seemed to take me an age and gain it wasn’t really what I was look for. I was trying to get a lot more depth into it and everything I tried just seemed to go wrong. So I’ve ended up with a much more basic look that I was aiming for.

All in all this has been a really challenging mini to paint. But what is puzzling is that I have no idea why I have struggled so much with. I’ve been in a good head space for painting. I wasn’t up against any deadline and it’s not something I haven’ve painted before. Well maybe not this min but I have painted a lot Wild West Exodus miniatures so I’m a bit perplexed at the issue I’ve had. But that’s enough of me moaning about the miniature. What do you think of it.

You can see more Infinity miniatures at my gallery here

I’m going to have to have a ponder on what I paint next because I don’t want to get myself into rut by trying to paint something that just isn’t working. I’ve still got lots of Vortann to play with as well as wealth of Infinity so I’m not short of projects to be working on.

On thing I am considering and I think I’ve touched on it before is painting the same mini up in a couple of different colour schemes. Just really highlight how much difference the choice of colour scheme makes when you are painting. The mini’s I’ve picked for this have turned up so I’m good to go with them whenever I like.

That’s all I’ve got for you this week which is much shorter than a normal updated but I’ve been really pressed for time this week due to a big increase in work commitments and travel. And I’m not sure if I’m going to have an update next week either. I will be working away for most of the week so my hobby time is going to be drastically limited. Which means for the first time in a long time I may not have the time to get something completed for the next update.

I would like to stress that this isn’t me loosing my mojo and not wanting to do the updates. It’s just a big commitment at work at the moment and is something that is going have it’s peaks and troughs over the next six to eight months. Where there will be times I just can’t anything painted during the week so I won’t have to show you in the weekly waffle.

Having said that I will work to make sure I have something for you. I’ve been toying with the idea of doing some reviews of hobby tools and gadgets that I use on a regular basis. So over the next few months when hobby time is tight I might try and spend my commuting time doing some reviews and articles about why I like certain things. Or just things that I think make the hobby process a bit easier. Because at the end of the day we can remove the barriers to painting, or hobby time in general we stand a much better chance of being able to get things completed.

So I will see how things go but in the mean time I hope you all have a really good rest of the weekend and have a great week ahead of you.
